if you are in school still then yes, this is acceptable. if you're over 21 though, this is not as a man who is interested will seek you out. if you're still school aged then make the first call. but don't make subsequent calls. only give him your number. don't call him even if he asks you to. let him chase you and you'll surely catch him.

Don't call him at work. "Casually" stop by and if he has time to talk, try to get his phone number then but don't interrupt him...he could get in trouble!

call but make it quick just let him know you wanted his number so you can get in touch with him later on and when he gives it then say ok i,ll call ya later and hang up.
