Thank you for your answer. If this statement were to hold truth TODAY what person / type of person would he (JM) be referring to...as in if a president or congress that was elected that was vain and aspiring, who would the experienced patriots be who we as a people would turn to?

Experienced patriots were the revolutionary leaders who fought for the American independence and wanted to serve the government for the people.
