It was really the roman catholic church as stated above and even then technically they didn't kill anyone. They had a "secular wing" that actually did the killing, they just sentenced them all to death.

And again I see above me that someone has brought up the argument that most scientists were christians in the past. This is true, as we saw above at the time the Catholic church was killing people who openly admitted that they were not catholic even if they were also christians. Who in their right mind would stand up and say " I'm a muslim, or I'm agnostic"?

christianity also went through a period in the enlightenment where they were persecuting (not always killing) of any one who professed the be an atheist or non believer.

In the end I think killed, not so many, held back, imprisoned or generally made life miserable for, lots and lots.

The death toll from the Crusades, witch hunts, and heresy hunts in Europe and the United States from the inception of Christianity to today totals about 300,000, according to historians. But as for scientists and thinkers, the number is pretty small. Just write down a list of the greatest scientists and thinkers of the last 1000 years, and see how many were Christians.

Now, if you want to blame Christians (and not fuedalism) for killing scientists and thinkers, you will also need to blame atheists (and not communism) for the murder of some 180,000,000 people over the last 100 years.

If you are looking for a "number" I do not have it -- and no one has it. History records facts but in this special case -- no one was counting. It must have been "unaccountable statistics". This having been said -- "none is too many" would also apply here --which means that even if they killed one Einstein (I know he was Jewish) but he symbolizes what a scientist is or should be -- if one like him is killed, the world is lost and that is why I say "even one killed is too many". Hope you are satisfied.

there is rather extra to an answer to this question than you think of. some areas of christianity could turn a blind eye to it if it would not supply them undesirable press or look undesirable to different christians. i'm so sorry to declare that besides the fact that if that's authentic. quite some people who say that it is not accomplished now or isn't ok....i ask your self merely how against it they could be if our regulations weren't in result that we've in this us of a. It happens someplace else in this international as nicely because of the fact the killing of christians by others. It comes right down to society and what it is going to settle for and not settle for. we desire to think of that our society at present would not tolerate it yet whilst our regulations did no longer give up it may the final christian inhabitants upward push up and give up others of their very own religions from doing it in the event that they have been using their very own Bible to justify it??? it rather is the authentic attempt of christianity and At this factor i think of they, the final public could sit down on their palms, watch the carnage and then condemn it after it became accomplished. In different words they had enable the enthusiasts do their grimy artwork. Then think of that their palms have been sparkling.

I think you mean the Roman Catholic Church. We Protestants were killed by them. Rats ate the flesh of Protestants who were piled up dead in the streets.

I would refer you to Fox's Book of Martyrs to really learn about this.
