If you mean can your brain stop functioning to a level where you are actually knowledgeable then yes. But the brain doesn't necessarily stop working, neurotransmitters in the brain just stop firing. An aneurysm doesn't stop the brain, my uncle had an aneurysm he is alive and well today with full brain function. Then there is of course dementia or Alzheimers disease. The brain thrives off of oxygen, thats why its dangerous to use some drugs.

Yes it can stop functioning but Trauma won't be felt in any ways as it is the brain that senses trauma. Even exceptions of trauma are eliminated when the body is made to work on artificial support. This is what I understood and feel so.

Well, no physical trauma maybe, but when I get extremely stressed I can not think. Someone will ask what time it is and I'll look at my watch but I can't say what time it is! Brain Stop.

But if there were no trauma involved, it doesn't seem it would be like a heart just stopped beating - don't you think? So what is your question?
Can a heart and brain just stop working without trauma involved? - I think not.
Can a heart and brain stop working as a result of some trauma? - Yes.

that is often the effect of stroke. my mom had about three last holiday season and still can't say anything much.in fact that's kinda what brought me here ,she was always a sounding board for my wacky ideas.
anyway back to the point yes: though not usually a complete failure(the result would be death)certainly partial failure is quite common among stroke victims.

It happens to alcoholics all the time. It's called a 'black-out'. Kinda like the brain cells get together and say ' What the hell, he's drinking so we'll just go on home without him.'
