The truth is that no one knows. The irony is that people are fighting and bickering and arguing about something they don't know for sure instead of just admit that they don't know.
Do I know that there is a God? Of course I do, nothing is caused without a causer. Do I think that people who proclaim that they know who God is and what God is like are the true blasphemers? Yes. If you take the word of other people as the word of God, you are misguided.

As I see it, God is what created the universe. I do believe God exists, but not the all-knowing, condemning God of many religions. Just God, and I don't think we'll ever be able to prove or disprove, or really learn anything more about God's existence.

If god is the universe, why not just call it 'universe' rather than trying to find something to stick the label 'god' onto? It's ok to admit that god is just a myth.

This is something I gathered from the Bible in order to explain the trinity. Basically, the trinity is a poetic attempt to describe the nature of God. God is one, of that I can be sure from the Bible, but He is more complex than just that. Apparently, He can act independently, but always in agreement, with something that we call 'persons', all of the one God.
Here is what I collected:
God tells angels to worship Him:
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
"Let all God's angels worship him." (Hebrews 1 & Psalm 45)
God calls Jesus God:
8 But about the Son he says,
"Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy."
(Hebrews 1 & Psalm 45)
Jesus says that God is Spirit:
24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." (John 4)
Jesus calls God the Father:
John 20:17
Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' "
Jesus says that the Father and him are one:
30 "I and the Father are one."
Jesus calls himself 'from everlasting to everlasting ':
58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" (John 8)
Jesus is in Daniel 7 as the Most High, having a separate set of independent actions from the Ancient of Days:
13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
21 As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom.
They are all the One God. But capable of doing things independently. That's why it gets kind of complicated when talking about their relationship in light of the nature of God. But I hope this didn't confuse you, but rather gave you something to build upon.
EDIT: Be careful! There has been an error throughout history to confuse the 'omnipresence' of God with the universe. In other words, worshiping the creation rather than the creator. So it would probably be an error to try to link God with anything in the physical world which might be thought to be God, but really isn't.

God is love. The Bible teaches us that in all existence, from all eternity, there has been and always will be only one God. God was never created, is completely loving, completely just, completely holy, completely merciful, and that He desires the best for us.
