I'm a freshman in college. I'm not really sure what I want to do, but I like learning languages. I'm fluent in Laos,English,Spanish, and working on Japanese,right now. I was just wondering about job prospects.

Not that its all about money,this seems like a job where I could travel around the world constantly.

1) Diplomatic core/UN translator. CIA, FBI or military may need translators for intelligence work.

2) Court translator or translator for lawyers & business people during depositions, negotiations, meetings.

3) Working in international fields - fashion, NGO (non-gov't organizations), art, oil companies, international finance/banking, etc.

4) Liguistic studies or language teacher.

5)Maybe working for a publisher or w/ a movie studio translating or doing voice overs.

6) Some people who are good w/ words make a living by making up names for branded products or prescription medicines.

Visit your college's career center & contact your advisor for ideas.

It's a global economy, so the demand for qualified translators is only going to increase. I could never master French but it sounds as though you have a knack for it. Ask one or more of your professors how to get into the field. It can be high stress at times (such as when a Polish translator bungled a quote from U.S. President Jimmy Carter) but I imagine also very interesting.

There is a huge demand for medical translators, especially on the coasts (immigrants) and in bigger cities.

They are begging for translaters in Iraq and it will be that way for many years.

no, you dont get paid much. but you could be an english teacher in a different country, my friend is doing that in spain right now
