first you remove the transmission from the engine. after that you remove the torque converter from the transmission. at this point you should be in clear view of the pump. you may want to position the transmission so that the pump is horizontal to the ground. the bolts around the pump will need to be removed . after the bolts are removed you should be able to get the pump out using flathead screwdrivers around the outside to gently pry the pump out. the o-ring around the outside of the pump makes it kind of stick in the housing a little bit. then you have your pump in your hand.

it depends on what trans you have. some transmissions have a cover over the pump and you have to have a special tool for the cover. either way, removing the pump if you have never done it is dangerous territory. you have to remove it with a slide hammer, while holding the fromt clutch drum in. there are thrust bearings or washers that could fall out and you wouldn't know. you could do serious damage and not know why. if you really want to do this yourself, take the trans out and take it to a dealer or trans shop, and pay them to replace the seals or whatever you need done with the pump.

The first thing you do is remove the trany. Then you take it to a transmission repair shop and let THEM do the pump. They will tell you why this is best.
