Are they even going to notice what you get them at that age? Don't break the bank. One or two toys for the 2 year old. Diapers & wipes for the 5 month old, wrapped up from 'Santa', because he knows that that's what he needs.

Your kids won't remember this Christmas in the long run. I suggest a few small things. You could also try stores that sell discounted things. Like goodwill or valuevillage or half price books. For your girl I think you should go out and by discounted halloween costumes. I would have loved fairy wings, wands and princess dresses for christmas. I was a big fan or dressing up like that. For your son maybe a cute stuffed animal or if you can make him something like a blanket. As long as you have your family with you at Christmas it will be great. Have fun and good luck!

As my husband and I are still desperately trying to save our floundering manufacturing company (and our remaining employees jobs) we are in the same boat.

My daughter will be 2 1/2 at Christmas. I have bought her two clearance DVDs, a bunch of books from the library book sale (less than a buck each and she will never know they are "used"), a pair of pajamas and a new Barbie and Spiderman doll (both bought on sale). Grand total? Maybe $50. But I started in June.

Keep your eyes out for clearance sales (stores are not selling crap because the middle class is being eradicated) and buy them stuff they need. At their ages they will have as much fun playing with the paper, bows & boxes as the toys.

Hope your move goes smoothly.

My son is 2 and my daughter is almost 5 months. We are getting my daughter a walker (some people hate walkers), but an exersaucer would be nice too. They sell those pretty cheap at Walmart. Books that make music and light up are great too, for babies. On Amazon.com you can browse their toy section, age appropriate, and they have free shipping on tons of toys! Really, check it out. You could get several toys for both children for not much at all. I know you will pick great gifts for you children, and they won't have a clue that you are a little short on money. Best of luck! And Merry Christmas in advance!

Hi, how about personalized books? Kids love to hear their own name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Sesame Street, Three Little Pigs, Teddy Bear Land, Ballerina Princess, Little Mermaid, Noah's Ark, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out - they're very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful, unique & special gift... It's something they can enjoy now and keep forever!! Good Luck!

Get out early tomorrow morning and get some clearance princess halloween costumes for you 2-3 year old. Also mine at that age LOVE Playdough.

As for 5 months, wrap up the handmedowns from your daughter.

Set your priorities. If your budget is limited since you are moving to a new place, i don't think you will settle for expensive gifts for them. You can spoil your kids with your love and care and teach them the value of having simple things in life. That is priceless, you know!
