Catholics and Orthodox are brothers and sisters in Christ, just like Protestants.

Catholic is an adjective derived from the Greek adjective καθολικός, meaning "general; universal" (cf. Henry George Liddell, Robert Scott, A Greek-English Lexicon).

The term "Catholic Church" is normally associated with the Church that is led by the Roman Pontiff, currently Pope Benedict XVI, and whose over one billion adherents are about half of the estimated 2.1 billion Christians. Other Christian denominations also lay claim to the description "catholic", including the Eastern Orthodox Church and those Churches possessing the historic episcopate (bishops).

In some countries, Catholic is included in the official name of a particular parish church, school, hospice or other institution belonging to the Roman Catholic Church, to distinguish it from those of other denominations. For example, the name "St. Mark's Catholic Church" seeks to make clear that it is not an Anglican or Lutheran church. In other countries, such as England, it would be more usual to use "Roman Catholic Church" in this context.

Many of those who apply the term "Catholic Church" to all Christians indiscriminately object to this use of the term to designate what they view as only one denomination within what they see as the "whole" Catholic Church. However, the Roman Catholic Church considers itself to be the Catholic Church, with others as "non-Catholics", and regularly refers to itself as the Catholic Church. This practice is in application of the belief that not all who claim to be Christians are part of the Catholic Church - a belief that goes back to Ignatius of Antioch, the earliest known writer to use the term Catholic Church - and that communion with the Roman Pontiff is essential for membership.

And for the record, Mary was not declared by the Catholic Church as a co-redemptrix. She was never given the equal position of God by the Catholics. She was just given a recognition of being the Mother of God. Before Christ died, He told the apostle John to behold thy Mother, and therefore telling the apostle to recognize Mary as his mother, too. It is also in this context that the Catholics placed Mary on high regard but not equal to God, when Mary asked Jesus to do something at the Wedding of Canan. Mary can only ask Jesus what to do but she cannot save souls by her own self. She is not a God, has no power to save souls. But all she can do is to pray for all the people. Thus she was recognized by the Catholic Church as the Intercessor, the One who Prays for Us, Not the One who Saves Us.

For the believers, someone is always praying for you, a friend, a relative, a pastor or a priest. Why can you not allow the Mother of God to pray for you?

TIME-OUT AND A MAJOR WHAT???

Since when are Christians and Catholics different?

Those of you who do not get this are showing your ignorance...

The Catholic Church is the largest Christian church, representing around half of all Christians, and is the largest organized body of any world religion.[3][4] According to the Statistical Yearbook of the Church, the Catholic Church's worldwide recorded membership at the end of 2005 was 1,114,966,000, approximately one-sixth of the world's population.[5]

The Pastor makes a good observation if not an ornery one! However, I completely agree with Mike W.! Thanks for a provocative statement...

This catholic has accepted Jesus as her personal savior.

It reminds me when the early church fathers thought you had to be Jewish first and circumsized, and Paul questioned that saying (and help me out folks) That if God chooses them through the Holy Spirit who are we to keep them out by placing rules on them. I am a Catholic, with exposure to the Assembly of God and the Baptist, I am just as comfortable there as I am at Mass. I know one is more spirit filled than the other but I am where I belong, God has made that plain to me, and I tell you born again Christians are in all three churches and so are "Pharisees".

I disagree with some things Catholics believe. However I would not go so far as to say they are not Christians. I really am trying my best to understand their beliefs.

I wonder if the person asking this question knows the difference between a religionist and a Christian?

What about the following two men who claimed to be Roman Catholics?

Al Capone

Adolph Hitler

Were they Christians?

What about the 30 Anti Popes?

What about the Priest in Boston who abused over 150 little boys?

I don't claim that all Protestants are Christians either, by the way.

Take that Baptist Pastor from Kansas: Fred Phelps?

What about him?

What about that Baptist guy name Bill Clinton?

You know the guy who supported the partial birth abortions and had affairs with 20 year old girls in the Oval Office and lied about it?

I don't think either of them are Christians, but the truth is, only God knows for sure about any of us.

Was Pope John Paul 2nd a Christian?

If you are sure, why did all those Catholics need to pray for him when he died?

Catholics prayed for him because they were not sure.

But note that when Mrs. Billy Graham died, no one prayed for her soul.

Again, only God knows for sure who is and who is not.

I don't think that 100% of the membership of any denomintion are Christians.

Who's to say who is and is not a Christian, last time I checked that was God's job not ours. Those who do are just people with a superiority complex and nothing else to do.

Denomination means nothing to God.

A true Christian is a person who has put his or her faith and trust in the person of Jesus Christ and fact that He died on the cross as payment for sins and rose again on the third day to obtain victory over death and to give eternal life to all who believe in Him. John 1:12 tells us: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” A true Christian is indeed a child of God, a part of God’s true family, and one who has been given new life in Christ. The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word (1 John 2:4; 1 John 2:10).

....Thank you........you are correct.

I was raised in a Protestant family....converted to Catholicism 17 years ago.

I never once heard such things said about Catholics. These remarks seem to come from sects that are not mainstream Protestants.

It is sad that they are so brainwashed and are only hearers and not doers. If they are such sola scriptura, they need to read St James 1: 19-26

.

Epistle Of Saint James
Chapter 1

19 You know, my dearest brethren. And let every man be swift to hear, but slow to speak, and slow to anger. 20 For the anger of man worketh not the justice of God.

23 For if a man be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he shall be compared to a man beholding his own countenance in a glass.
24 For he beheld himself, and went his way, and presently forgot what manner of man he was.
25 But he that hath looked into the perfect law of liberty, and hath continued therein, not becoming a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work; this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 And if any man think himself to be religious, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his own heart

Why do you think the church is not considered a Christian church by most...look up their beliefs in google....I think ou will understand why so many wonder what is up with most of them....they are teaching a lot of false doctrine in that church and the members follow without question..they need to read their bibles and question why something is taught that is not in the bible.
