When you're trick or treating and the person just holds out the bowl of candy, how many pieces are you suppose to take?

....I should have asked this yesterday, but I didn't think about it until I was out tonight.

If I'm handing out candy and I do this I expect them to take as much as they want....within reason of course. (I don't mind if they take a handful, but I wouldn't want them to empty the bowl into their sack.) If I were trying to meter out the candy then I would just hand them one piece at a time.

I agree take at most one. Two if they have a lot of candies and you have been out late at night. Otherwise One is the best choice, unless they offer to take more then one.

Well if there teeny tiny candies like M&M's, take a handful. And if there hard candies wrapped in plastic wrap, test the waters and take a handful. If the person giving out the candy gives you a dirty look, you should put a few pieces back.

It's always best to take just one. If the host offers you more, than you can take a couple more, but only after an offer.

Proper etiquette/manners is one piece.

Just one. They're just letting you choose which one you want so you don't get something you wouldn't eat.

You take one.

Unless they say "go ahead and take some more", then take ONE more.
