My cat is an indoor cat. But I let him go out a few times a week. He loves to be outside, chasing butterflies and lizards. This morning I was watching him, and I noticed he was eating grass and some leaves from the bushes. Then when he came back in I noticed some green fluid, like vomit, in the front entrance. Maybe he can't stand it in his stomach, so he vomited, but, can this be any harm for him?

Its fine for cats (and dogs) to eat grass. They eat it because it actually helps them with digestion. The green vomit is normal in both dogs, and cats. The ONLY thing I'd be concerned about is whether or not your grass has been treated w/ chemicals or pesticides. If your not sure, I would try to find out, or not take any chances. Treated grass CAN be harmful to your cats.

*Pet stores sell grass for cats actually, and i guess its "sweeter" than just lawn grass. I bet your cat would love you even more if you brought some home for him! :) meow!

No, it's good for cats to have some green in their diet every once in a while. It helps their digestive tract and keeps them from forming hairballs. They crave it as a natural lubricant. I notice, too that everytime my animals eat grass they vomit a little bit of yellow. I think that if they had a chance to eat it more often (you can buy some cat grass at petstores) this will not happen as much/any more.

=)

all cats eat grass, they get extra vitamins and roughage from it. alot of people think that they do it specifically to make themselves sick, but i have heard alot more often from people with more knowledge (vets and long-term cat owners) that the vomitting is just kind of a side effect- the grass often tickles their throat! whatever the vomitting is from, it is really common and i wouldn't worry at all, unless it becomes discoloured (ie- not that see-through yellowy green).

i have seen cat grass for sale as well and would recommend it if you live in a busy area where there is alot of traffic or chemicals on the grass.

No Grass will not harm your cat. That is how he gets his greens. Try and keep him away from the Blue Tailed Lizard. The Blue tail is toxic to cats.

No, it is not harmful for a cat to eat grass, unless, there is fertilizer on the grass or some other product. If these products are on the grass, do not let your cat eat it.

actually cats in the wild do eat grass as a digestive aid and also if they are not feeling too good to help them vomit.

Grass is good for them and you can actually buy or grow "cat grass"

The only thing I would be concerned about and definitely check is to make sure your cat does not eat any grass that has been chemically treated to prevent/reduce weeds

Enjoy watching your kitty chasing the butterfies etc. it a wonderful sight to behols as they dance and leap about.

Their is nothing wrong with your cat eating grass. Most animals like the taste of fresh green grass, however it can make them a little sick. He should be just fine!

Cats actually eat grass instinctively. Sometimes they do it to cause themselves to throw up if they ate something bad. If your cat isn't throwing up regularly it's usually fine. Some people even put out little trays of grass for their cats to eat so they won't eat the houseplants.

Eating grass usually causes them to vomit, neutralized stomach acids, the rolling in the dirt is just fun. you keep vacuuming up all the dust and dirt in the house, so that is play and feels good. Gives the back a good scratch. They are happy cats.
