Samaritan's Purse is a good volunteer organization. Right about now is the perfect time to volunteer helping wrap shoe boxes filled with Christmas gifts which have been donated by churches.

If you want to go overseas next summer you definitely have to start getting ready now, a passport for starters and start contacting organizations that might be available to you, World Vision is good, you could also contact the Southern Baptist Convention, they have a website, if you are thinking of going with a religious organization, the Red Cross and United Way are so politcal it kindly supresses what they are trying to do. I love the Salvation Army, they are good, Samaritans Purse goes around the world as well. I sure there are many more you can find on the web just start planning now for then, thats what I am doing as I am headed for Haiti in January, got everything ready except the suitcase, can't wait to get going, good luck to you and God Bless!!

You can use the different companies that organize it but most of them cost around $2000 or so (at least all the ones I've seen). The most reputable one I know is the Peace Corps has a shorter stay volunteer thing, so you can do it for a couple of weeks instead of 2 years.
