He might have an allergy that is causing him to itch and lose some of his hair. My cat loses the hair on the backs of his legs if he gets a flea on him. More details would be helpful... is this something that is always present, or did it just appear?

What's wrong with YOU? You obviously have noticed hair loss and ignored it and now the cat is half bald.
How about getting some RESPONSIBILITY and instead of spending all your money on your foofey little toy dogs that you mentioned in another post take this poor cat to a VET.

Fur coming off the cat like that is not normal, he should be checked out.
You're asking us to guess when a professional vet can give you an immediate answer after looking at him---make an appointment and get your cat in for treatment. The longer you wait on some things, the worse it gets and the harder it will be to treat.

First take him to the vet, to make sure there's no flea or mange problem, also some cats are allergic to the food they eat, my cat same problem, I changed from Friskies to Fancy Feast and he seems to be doing better, the fur is growing back slowly.
Good Luck

It could be an allergy to fleas etc, stress or something lacking in its diet. I would get it checked out.
