Collection agencies call my cell # all the time for the woman who used to have my #.

Tonight, someone called from a blocked # so I didn't answer. When I heard on the message that he was calling for the woman who used to have my #, I called back to tell them they have the wrong #. Some other guy answered. I tried to explain the situation, but he wouldn't let me talk, he kept shouting to talk over me, so I hung up. I don't need that aggravation, it's not even my problem.

Well, a minute later, he called me back. I answered (the # wasn't blocked this time), and he said, "Since you hung up on me, I'm leaving your number in our system". And he hung up on me! Now every couple minutes my cell rings, it's a blocked #. I know it's him. So now he's harassing me.

I called the unblocked # to complain, but of course, all I have is his first name.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Don't change your number I'm a collections agent myself and I know many times I'm given customers in which they have disconnected and lost the number only to have a new person answer the phone. When I'm told they are not the person usually I delete the number out of my system.End of story.they cannot keep calling you b/c you were unfortunate enough to get a dead beats old cell number.Call the number back and asked for the supervisor if they asked why just ignore them and say you want to speak to a supervisor ....when you speak to them explain that your not her and your not related to her and you would like to give them this oppt to take your number out of their system .Also let them know that you will take legal action if they do not take your number out of their system by placing a call to your state rep. Yes this is illegal to do and its more likely you got some untrained collections agent.Do not be bullied and that is exactly what he is doing to put your name and number back in the sytem.

Contact your cell phone service provider. They should be able to find out who is calling and harassing you, and you can then report them to the police. What they are doing is against the law.

Find out if there is a way that the calls from blocked numbers will not go thru to your phone - instead they will get a recording that says "this number does not accept calls from blocked numbers, so unblock and call back."

If it's not too much trouble, change your number, which the phone co. should do for free because of the problem you are having.

Lastly, don't try to deal reasonably with collection agencies. They are evil, nasty people. Just don't answer the phone if the number is blocked or you don't know who it is.

Change your phone number. The calls are never going to stop no matter how many times you explain to them that you are not the person they are looking for. They will think you are lying. It's not worth the headache. I went through the same thing and changed my phone number. It's a lot easier then you would think to get it all changed over and to let people know.,

Do you know the company name or name of the collection agency? With that info you could (and probably should) report them. Harassment is illegal. B.B.B. (Better Business Bureau) is a good place to start or maybe your local telephone co. That's a start and there are probably other places I haven't thought of.

This sounds radicle perhaps. You could call the Attorney General in your state and complain to their office about it. I believe someone there would help.
