Has a cure been found? There are treatments that mask it over, I like carbamazepine. Other people like lithium, depakote, marijuana, olanzepine, zyprexa and many other drugs or a combination of them. I hope there's a cure and that the pharmacuetical companies are just hidding it so they can make their profit but I don't think that is what's going on. The pharmacuetical companies have got to be making a disgusting killing on us though. You got to figure out through trial and error which drugs work best for you cause we are all different, with different severities, and different side effects to the drugs, with different life styles and environments. There are many factors. Supposedly some handle it just fine with vitamins and health food and yoga and all that. But again we all have to be tailored, there's no one size fits all here. It'd be nice if there was a simple answer but... Get a therapist or a free one at your counties mental health resourses to help you find the treatment best for you.

Like everyone says here, the meds CONTROL the symptoms of the Bipolar disease but they don't cure it. That is one thing some Bipolars have problems with. They don't like the idea that they will have to take meds probably for the rest of the life to control the condition. I've gotten to the point where I look at my Bipolar condition and the meds as no different from the daily treatment that Diabetic and High Blood Pressure suffers have to follow. Its a medical condition that in most cases is easily treated with meds. I take the meds and go on with my life.

A combination of appropriate and effective medication prescribed by a psychiatrist combined with counseling/therapy. Reseach finds that both are much more effective than just one. Lithium used to be a major Rx for manic depression, but many people build it up to toxic levels, so its not as used as it used to be.

I am not a supporter of the AMA (American Medical Association) or the FDA (Food & Drug Administration). I have used and endorse the information listed in the source below. Present your question there.

to start, get a mood stabilizer... it's not for depression, it rather keeps the mood more stable. all people are different, but with bi-polar, usually some sort of medication is a good start.

No one treatment works for everyone.
Some people respond well to Depakote and some respond to medications like lithium.

there is no cure only treatments and there is no best treatment because what works for one person doesn't work for the next
