God is.
Humans have a hard time dealing with that open of a concept, and keep trying to narrow it down for comfort.

You are right in that all religions cannot be right. But if there is a God who does indeed love us, then there is one that is right, leaving all the others in the 'Wrong' column. However, most, if not all, religions CLAIM to be true. The question is, or should be, how are YOU going to know the truth?
The God of the Bible makes some claims that can be verified. He claims to know what will come to be and he reveals it to certain people -- in other words, prophecy. There are many prophecies in the Bible -- some have already been fulfilled, others not yet. Some of those that have been fulfilled can be checked in history books.
Though some will say that those prophecies were written after the fact, the fact is, you can verify that they weren't. Others will say that one can interpret prophecy any way you want, but again, there are prophecies that are so specific that there can be no room for a mistaken interpretation.
May I suggest some reading:

(If you are in a hurry for an answer, you could start with Chapter 2, which discusses fulfilled prophecy with specifics)

It has been said that "God" is nothing more than the physical rules and quantum mechanics that created everything and make the physical universe exist. The universe is the way it is because if it were not, we would not be here to observe it.
Even hard-core atheistic scientist types are beginning to realize that they must come to terms with a "creator" of some kind, even if the creator is reduced to a set of rules appendixed in the back of a physics text book.
The religious enterpretations of "God" are more based on perception, custom, tradition and the all-too human need to have others see things "your way". Don't turn to human religions to find out about where, who or what "God" is. Even closely related sects like Catholics and Episcopalians can't fully agree.
Nobody will actually know the answer to your question (and it is possible that all religions are "right" in some way) until the next life. Or possibly the one after, or the one after that... Who knows what comes next!

God has no inherent material aspect and, in fact, can not even be described in any words that humans can devise because such words have inherent limitations. God is infinite in every shape, manner and form. From the moment that your soul was created, by the gift of God, the truth of all things including the nature of God has been within your soul waiting to be awakened. This truth is illuminated and "translated" for our understanding by the Holy Spirit as discussed in John 14 and 1 Corinthians 2:6-16. We should that forget; however, that this truth must be awakened through our conscious act of will to invite God into our lives.

The true nature of God is Loving Creator of the Universe.
Lots want to claim sole ownership. This is where all the power and control came to be...This why there are so many religions waving the flag. The boxes have disturbed so much of the pure essence. The true nature of God (or what ever name you choose) is the only truth far beyond man made rules and fear tactics of a hell and damnation. God is love. If we quiet enough within ourselves we'd feel the peace and the true nature itself.

God is a spirit. John 4:24. This means that God does not have a body. He is invisible, however, He can reveal Himself to man in visible form. In the person of Jesus Christ, God came into the world in a body of flesh. John 1:14-18; Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:3.
God is Light. “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” I John 1:5.
God is Love. “He that loveth not knoweth not God for God is love.” I John 4:8.
God is a consuming fire. “For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29.
God hates. “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination to Him.” Proverbs 6:16.
God hears. The eyes of the Lord are open unto us, and His ears are open unto our prayers.
God is a person. Personal names are used in reference to Him. Exodus 3:14; Matthew 11:25. Personal characteristics are ascribed to Him, such as: (1) knowledge, Isaiah 55:9-10; (2) emotions, Genesis 6:6; (3) will, Joshua 3: 10.
God is a Unity. Scripture clearly teaches that there is one God. I Timothy 2:5 (Read this verse.) The false teaching that there are many gods is contrary to reason. There can be only one Supreme Being.
God is a Trinity. The Bible teaches not only that there is one God, but also that there are three persons in the Godhead, - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This is a mystery to the human mind, but although it cannot be understood, it can be believed because God's Word says it is so. The word "trinity" is not found in the Bible, but the truth is found in the following passages: (1) Baptism of Jesus, Matthew 3:16-17. The great commission, Matthew 28:19. (3)The benediction of II Corinthians 13:14. The Father is called God in Romans 1:7. The Son is called God in Hebrews 1:8. The Holy Spirit is called God in Acts 5:3-4.

God is an power generated via the completed volume of prayers at one time. think of a baseball stadium finished of 70,000 followers and we are in the backside of the 9th with 2 outs bases loaded and down via one run. each person in the stands is praying for a fulfillment, they're wishing it with all their hearts. Then comes the pitch and the batter strikes out! that's the character of God: a stable want

well everyone is under the impression that they need to be right about their god, personally i hate organized religion it is all contradicting and condones horrible things so i think that god exists but does not interfere so the true nature of god is apathetic otherwise there is not kind answer to why god won't heal amputees, fix world hunger, or come down from on high and reveal his true intentions, why there are no great miracles, why everyone of the same faiths get divorced at the same rate, the list goes on. but we must have come from something science dictates that you can not create or destroy matter so something must have started everything, but it is also arrogant to think that our small planet in the middle of space is worthy of attention from an all powerful being so god's nature must be apathetic

Read the Gospel of John, three chapters a night - it will take you a week.
If you're sincere with an open heart - by the end of the week, you will know the truth.

It has been said that if you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. We see by the Bible that Jesus was absolutely sinless, that He had great love for people, that He grieved when folks would not come to HIm, that He was full of truth.......and on and on and on. Jesus was willing to give His life for mankind......and God the Father was willing to send His only Son to die for us. God is a God of LOVE and FORGIVENESS, among so many other things.

Good question but tricky to answer because God isn't in nature and its hard to compare him to what is known. We know a person by what they think, how they act, what they say, etc. The nature of God can be found in his Word. The Bible tells us what he likes, what he doesn't like, what we should think, how to act, etc. Study his book and he will surely reveal his nature to you.
