Glock is a fine weapon, but you really shouldn't buy it just because it is recommended. Do you like it? Can you shoot it well? Are you able to conceal it comfortably and easily? There are a lot of good manufacturers, and everyone has their favorite or favorites. I carry a Taurus, a Ruger, a Browning or a North American Arms (the last one is a long story about what I can get away with at work)--but that doesn't necessarily mean I would recommend any of them for you. A concealed handgun is a very personal item--make sure you get the one for you. Just stick with a reliable manufacturer.

You can't go wrong with the Glock 19. However, I would recommend the Glock 23 for two reasons.
First, the price and the size will be nearly identical to the G19 but it give you the extra power of the .40S&W
Secondly, you can buy a 9MM conversion barrel and a G19 Mag and fire 9mm from the same pistol. Two pistols in one.
I would also recommend the Springfield XD pistols. However, they are a little more expensive than the glocks but well worth comparing.
I own both and could not be more satisfied.
What ever pistol you choose, make sure it feels good in your hand and you are comfortable operating the weapon. Also, If you can afford tritium sights, I would highly recommend installing them on any defensive pistol and spend some money on a good concealment holster.

The Model 19 Glock is user friendly, accurate very durable, extremely reliable, high cap and as safe as they come. Just keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot and carry in a holster that covers the trigger. Rookies who have trouble qualifying with other handguns switch to the Glock Model 19 and qualify the next time they shoot. The Glocks are a bit thicker than say a 1911, but they are fairly compact and still conceal well in a good holster. They are accurate and fun to shoot.
I have not a clue what 'Bad Speller' is alluding to, but if concealed carry permits are available in your State, by all means, apply for one.
Best.

I carry a Taurus 745 Millennium (45 ACP). Taurus makes the Millennium in 9mm, .40 cal., and .45 ACP. My gun cost me $300, new.
It is an excellent little gun, with a life time warranty.
If you are leaning towards a revolver, my other (semi-retired) concealed carry gun is a S&W 940, a J-frame, 5 shot, 9mm revolver. It is no longer made. So, you have to look for the 640, a .38 cal. gun. A good used one will cost you about $350 to $400.

The Glock 19 is a fine choice, I prefer the full size Glocks. They are not that much bigger than the compact models, and just as easy to conceal.

There is no single answer to that question... It all boils down to what you are comfortable shooting.... Most CCW weapons are choosen for the ability to conceal.... A five shot snub nose S&W 38 spec revolver is real easy to conceal but doesnt have a lot of thump.... Kel Tec make a 40 S&W that is real easy to conceal but not the most comfortable gun to shoot. Right now im carrying a 9mm Makarov that is real easy to conceal and is real nice to shoot. If im using a shoulder holster under a jacket .... I like carrying a 45 acp so it all depends on where you are concealing and what your comfortable shooting.........On a side note to bad speller..... If you have a CCW permit, it is not illegal to carry...................

Try a Smith & Wesson Model 340 Revolver. Very light to carry. Shoots 357 or 38 special. Can be purchased for just alittle over $600. This is what I carry all day long. .. I carry in a pocket holster. So light I do'nt know it there sometimes. .. 12 oz. empty weight.

Before you go with Glock take a look at Springfield Armory XD Series. Much better than the Glock.

Can you get a 22 conversion unit for the Glock? My Beretta M92 is the most fun with the 22 unit installed. BTW, safe is entirely your responsibility.

The best choice for your purpose is nothing less than a 357 Magnum, because you can also shoot 38 caliber ammo in it.* You get two (2)* handguns for the price of one.* It is a proven Man Stopper.* I recommend Smith & Wesson or Colt.* Buy new or used.*
