Hi guys, I am just wondering is there any MAJOR difference other than the wire cable?
cuz a ps3 controller gonna cost me about at least 40 bucks.
While i can buy a converter for 8 bucks and use it to convert PS2 controller to play ps3 games.
so just want to know the difference, (other than the sixaxis), will it be a major downgrade on gaming if i use a PS2 controller? like missing targets on FPS games..etc

additional note:
okay and for heavenly sword lair etc.
they are all single player. I have one PS3 controller which can do the job.
I just want to use the second PS2 controller for NBA, NHL, sport, racing games that include 2 players mode. Is it okay if i use a PS2 controller?(I dont play co-od mode on RPG or FPS game..only sport games when my friends come over.)

Visually the difference is only with L2 and R2 buttons (they are like triggers). Also sixaxis has PS button for some extra control on PS3 (turn on/off, etc.)
More differences inside: It has a function similar to Wii's controller - you move controller - the game responds. Rumble function is coming back soon - Dualshock 3 Sixaxis is coming out in November (Japan only), in the beginning of 2008 for the rest of the world.
Wireless function isn't like PS2 wireless controllers (they use infrared sensors). PS3 uses Bluetooth technology.

Yeah the motion sensor is a must have for games like Lair where there is no turning off the motion sensor. Simple games that use it like COD and Heavenly Sword it can be turned off. Depends on how much you want to use the tilt. Of course another huge difference is not the SIXAXIS, but the DUALSHOCK2 , PS2 controllers rumble while PS3's don't. But Sony announced they are coming out with SIXAXIS2 with DUALSHOCK3, so that there's can also rumble.

There is a HUGE difference! In the outward appearance, the R2 and L2 buttons are inverted triggers, and there is now a PS button in the center of the controller (for turning the console on and off and for quitting games.)

The big difference is Sixaxis motion sensing. Inside of the PS3 sixaxis wireless controller, is a motion sensing device which allows you to control games in all six axises of motion, with very precise controls of depth and speed.

Also, a rumble controller (new touchsense technology) will be released in Japan sometime in November (it can be imported into the USA and work on any PS3) and will be available to the USA in spring of 2008. The controller will also still have motion sensing with sixaxis technology.

yes there is a difference btw. the two. The first difference is that the ps3 controller is wireless and the 2nd diffenence is the fact that you cannot use a ps2 controller for a ps3. And yes that is another way that Sony gets our money.

ps3 has no rumble but that will change in spring 2008. L2 and R2 are bigger for ps3

No not really. I have a ps3 controller(but sold my ps3 and bought a wii) and there is really nothing different besides the r3 and l3 buttons. In fact, it's actually worse because there is no vibration at all!!!!!!!!!!! OMGOMGOMG
