It seems that just about all the comments from religious people here is steeped in ignorance and delusion. Most of them don't even know the bible well let alone compelling FACTS that most ordinary people would be aware of.

I'm from Australia which is a beautiful, happy and peaceful place where there are hardly any religious people. Is someone is very religious here they are seen as weird but in the States it seems to be the norm. Is that why people think that Americans are dumb?

As an Atheist I've always been under the strong impression that the human mind is a freak accident of nature that was never meant to be. That's why so many people can be delusional and believe whatever they think is real, even if it's not real and even if it leads to wars. To believe in gods, and angels and being rewarded or punished by them has got to be the worst delusional type of human thinking. On the other hand, the fact that I'm an Atheist doesn't prevent me from being delusional in my own way. I once was in love with a girl and I really thought she was in love with me, but then she let me know she was never in love with me. Now that I look back on it I can clearly see she was never in love with me but I just didn't want to believe it and became victim of my own delusion. How I wish religious folks would snap out of it like I did but beliefs in myth and superstition is an old habit that will take a long time to die.

Well I also coming from Australia, & have experienced religious harassment for years.

Then there's the Fundy element's latest attempt to enter/influence politics. Which "Fundy First" Candidate was dis-endorsed for admitting he looked at porn?

I honestly think the issue is not as black & white as "religious & non-religious". There are dogmatic religions hell bent (pardon the pun) on converting heathens, and others who work on individual development.

Australia beautiful, happy and peaceful one day, Yank Fundy recruitment camp the next.

Who said that there are not many religious people in Australia? I live in Australia and today I went to church for All Saints Day.the church was full of school kids and other people. Tomorrow I have to work otherwise I would go to church because it is All Souls Day and the first Friday of the month. I also try to go to church one a week. I don't know what you mean by "religious" exactly as I am not perfect. I am not a nun and I could do more in regards to religion and I do sin occassionally (but everyone sins - no one is perfect except God) but I consider myself to be somewhat religious. Now, the bible is hard to understand. I have read it twice and will be reading it again but I was never good at reading between the lines. Some things could be taken differently for different people.
Also I go to one church and it is usually full, my mum goes to another church and that is usually full of people. Most churches are. There are many religious people here in Australia. How many Catholic schools are there? You may think that there are not many as you and your family and friends don't go to church but otherwise if you did you would see a lot of religious people. So who is ignorant now?

I don't know if or why "people think that Americans are dumb," but that in itself is certainly not a particularly subtle or nuanced question! However, it is true that the U.S. seems more religious than ever, as a society, and it scares me, as a non-religious person. We are supposed to have a separation of church and state, but it seems that to get anywhere in public office one has to be explicitly religious, and in some places even explicitly Christian. I look forward to the day when a politician can freely say "My religious beliefs are both irrelevant and not your concern."

Wow that question is so riddled with mis-statements that I don't know where to begin. I like Australia, so I'm just going to assume you're"ignorant, delusional, dumb, weird, don't even know the bible and don't have any compelling FACTS". Because Australia is a beautiful, happy, and peaceful place with just as many religious people as any other nation.

Hi Amber. There are plenty of religious people here in Australia and our major cities are culturally diverse. It would not be prudent to speak of ignorance.

Not all Americans are dumb. I agree that there are certain Americans.. I'm thinking here of the ones who are apparently incapable of wearing a pair of pants to cover their **** ... but seems to me that per capita the American education system is at least equivalent to that of Dubbo or maybe even Dapto, so your speculation is not worthy of further consideration.

Religious zealots are everywhere.

Amber, American people have no culture or even know where Australia is on a world map. Having no culture divides them to label each of them into groups. Unlike us in Australia we have our Aussie culture and we all don't racially label people or place them into separate groups. This has a lot to do with there US school system which doesn't teach geography or teach them about other cultures. Aussies aren't judgmental towards any persons regardless of there religion, beliefs, race, color, sexual orientation or physical or mentally challenged disability's.I was born in the US and moved to Australia when I was seven, Ive been living in Australia now for sixteen years. So I can completely understand why a lot of people around the world (not just Australians) think like this about us yanks.

If you have based your views of Americans, religious or not, on what you have read here then you are sadly mistaken. This forum in no way relates to the average American in daily life.

Thats like asking if "all" people from Australia are, stupid, ignorant, delusional and sad. Since it is not right to lump all people from one certain place or belief into one catagory I would say no, they are not all the same. Just as I know that not "all" people from Australia, are rude and judgemental, nor do I think that "all" are dumb.

Nope. Not all of us. Probably about the same ratio as non-christians.
By the way, if you're unhappy in this country, why don't you go back to Australia??
