Well, I think she is trying to educate women on their rights in Islam and this is great. I do find that sometimes she contradicts what she is trying to say...The thing I admire her most about is she tries to separate cultural Ideas from religion. A lot of people have confused culture with religion and do not actually follow true Islam. We need more people willing to stand up and say things like she has said,.......we need to educate Muslim women on their rights.....

Farhat Hashmi is one of the most influential contemporary Muslim scholars or Ulema particularly in Pakistan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Dr.Farhat Hashmi was born in Sargodha, Punjab, and is the daughter of the (Late) Abdur Rehman Hashmi, another prominent Muslim scholar.
Dr. Hashmi is widely known for her in depth knowledge of Hadith (sayings of Muhammad), and a detailed grasp of Classical Arabic. Her primary following remains the middle and upper classes of Pakistan, however her influence is certainly more widespread, and is not restricted only to women.
Dr. Hashmi and Dr. Zubair have four children: three married daughters and a son. Currently, the family resides in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Never heard of her before. If it is her view that I should listen to my husband if he orders me not to take care of my parents, I disrespect her for that.
i would divorce my husband if he ordered me not to take care of my destitute parents.
EDIT: God orders us " no obedience to creation in the disobedience of the creator" and he also orders us to be good to our parents.
Where did that escape her when she made such a statement
to ignore parents because it is husband's orders?
I totally disrespect her for that if she did say it!!!
