BALTIMORE - A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.
Church members routinely picket funerals of military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, carrying signs such as "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "God hates fags."
So whether or not your for the war or against it, Religous or non-Religous, I'm pretty sure your not going to say the reason why we have wars is because we have homosexuals in our country and are tolerant.

I was saying that it's ignorant people like these that make alot of other Christians look bad. Same as Muslims strapping bombs to themself and blowing people up.

I too am a Christian, and was amazed that an entire church would actually support this. Go to a place where an entire family is grieving and insult them all.

You need to learn to express yourself more clearly. On the surface, this doesn't even make sense. You ask why Christians are at times seen as ignorant. Then you start going on about fundamentals protesting at funerals. Then you rant about the war and whether or not homosexuals are the reason for it. What exactly is your question and how does it relate to what you are talking about?
All that said, I am a Christian, and I think it is abhorrent the way those fundamentals did that. I think that father deserves every cent of that $11 million. It is people like that which make it so that some people think Christians are ignorant, but it is not a fair assessment. You can't judge an entire population of people based on one small minority of idiots.

Well, yeah, this is a perfect example of why Christians are seen as ignorant, but it doesn't take such a far-out example, really. You've got people who refuse to believe basic scientific facts like evolution and the age of the earth. Their religion forces them to accept ignorant, ridiculous beliefs and to have to defend these beliefs when they cannot be defended in any sensible way. These same people, 400 years ago, would have had to condemn Galileo, as the church did, for saying the earth revolves around the sun. They would be in just as much denial about that as they are about these other facts now.
And, for you more sensible Christians who think the group who picketed the funeral is ignorant and crazy, you need to understand that that's how many of your beliefs look to some of us.

Be fair now, I have seen all sorts of Christians posting the same hatred that the Phelps clan is so good at spreading.
Have you forgotten Jerry Falwell's famous claim that the gays and atheists were to blame for 9-11?
No, you guys only speak up after Phelps was convicted because you suddenly realize that the courts disagree with you.

The Bible answers that question
(1 Corinthians 1:18-21) 18Â For the speech about the torture stake is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is God’s power. 19Â For it is written: “I will make the wisdom of the wise [men] perish, and the intelligence of the intellectual [men] I will shove aside.” 20Â Where is the wise man? Where the scribe? Where the debater of this system of things? Did not God make the wisdom of the world foolish? 21Â For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not get to know God, God saw good through the foolishness of what is preached to save those believing.
(1 Corinthians 1:26-31) 26Â For YOU behold his calling of YOU, brothers, that not many wise in a fleshly way were called, not many powerful, not many of noble birth; 27Â but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put the wise men to shame; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put the strong things to shame; 28Â and God chose the ignoble things of the world and the things looked down upon, the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are, 29Â in order that no flesh might boast in the sight of God. 30Â But it is due to him that YOU are in union with Christ Jesus, who has become to us wisdom from God, also righteousness and sanctification and release by ransom; 31Â that it may be just as it is written: “He that boasts, let him boast in Jehovah.”

Wow, that is quite a generalization. If you would have made such a statement about a particular race of people because of a what a few members of that race did, you would probably get alot more flack. Please don't associate Christianity, including its teaching against homosexuality, with those individuals who are clearly misguided, ignorant, and hateful.

The only ignorance I see in this is the judge, the jury and the slime awarded $11M.
It's not the only reason we have wars and you know it so don't be ignorant yourself. But no one can deny that one of the reasons is because we're tollerant of gays but intollerant of god.
