I have just watched the news and it said that all processed meat should be avoided. This means no more ham butties in our picnics, no pork pies and pickles.

It also said that we should only eat red meat to the equivalent of 1lb per week. My husband will not be very happy with that.
That means one quarter pound beefburger four times a week.

Yes. Moderation is key. Those scientists tend to exaggerate and oversimplify things for the lay-public, but I'm not worried.

How do I know? I'm a bioscientist as well. It's something we do.

I don't fancy lettuce for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. They can say what they like, I'll eat what I like. I love bacon and pork chops, I love curry (whatever meat is used), I love kebabs, I love fried eggs, steak, meat pies, chips, baked beans, pickles. I've had quite a long life already, eating what i wanted, without listening to what people tell me, what they advise. I'm not going to change now. I'm a believer in the idea that if you number is up, you're going to go. Every few months we get this bullshit from some source or other. If these people don't want to eat bacon, pork, sausages, beefburgers or whatever, it's up to them. But I don't want them trying to tell me what to eat. A stiff middle finger to all o them!!!!

Well for that matter ALL processed foods should be avoided. Heck even fruits and vegetables run the risk of e-coli. Nothing is safe any more. Everything causes cancer. My philosophy is, eat what you want because you could be hit by a truck tomorrow! I'm tired of all the contradictions out there aren't you?

By the way, the white part of bacon is fat not pus or puss either. At least I don't think has anything to with cats. LOL

Yes I will.If you start believing everything the government says you might as well give up living altogether.
Dont forgat that the comitee of scientists responsible for the "21 units of alchohol per week is the maxmum safe limit" advise admitted last week that they just made it up.
You dont live entirely on meat do you? We are elvolved as omnivores.
Another thing to take into account is that the government`s cheif scientist and many others in authority are members of the vegan society

Moderation is the key. Humans are omnivores--we are set up to consume both vegetables and meat, and although one can become a complete vegetarian, one has to be extremely careful to get the full complement of vitamins, minerals, and protein through other means. And why many vegetarians (even partial vegetarians) become slightly malnutritioned. The choice will always be whether you want to live an unguaranteed long BLAND life or a possibly slightly shorter fully tasted life. For me after seeing my grandparents and now my own parents becoming very old with all the problems of old age (and they have all been fairly healthy through their long lives), I choose perhaps shortening my life but having a great time doing it while I can. I have given up most other vices; eating (ok, moderately and with a lot less of the bad stuff) remains one of my pleasures and I don't intend to give up meat completely. I have cut back and, surprisingly, my body seems to have limited itself to about 4oz of meat protein (including fish and poultry) per day maximum--it just loses it's taste for meat after about 4oz and I don't believe in force feeding myself.

Of course I will. What news did you watch it on? Most news on the processed food industry is fickle to begin with. Only one kind of food is nearly 100% always safe to eat. It's vegetables grown, in a non-contaminated soil, without the use of any fertilizers, pesticides or animals within a 10 ft radius, EVER. Remember the Spinach scare awhile ago? Do you still eat spinach? I still do. I'm still alive. How about the mad cow? I still ate then, I'm fine.

The mere thought of a Cumberland sausage sends me into raptures, and bacon makes me drool, I love them both.
I will not be dictated to as to my eating habits or anything else for that matter.
You haven't lived until you have eaten a bacon sandwich in a Scottish morning roll with butter running down your chin, fabulous.

If we listened to all the quangos that tell us what and what not to eat , we would all be on bread and water. Next weeks advice will be that processed food is good for us and fruit and veg are bad.
Do like we do , go to the local butcher where all his meat is fresh home killed and processed ready for sale.

Darwin will sort it out, humans will learn to cut down on thier meat intake via natural selection.

4.5% of the worlds population have already figured this out.

Have you heard the news? Mad Cow Disease is 100% sure to give you a horrible death, 100% fatal, INSANELY contagious. And YES it's in the U.S., they just call it Crusfeld Jacob (sp?) so people don't get scared. And, you get that from red meat.

But I eat burgers all the time. Everything's dangerous - moderation is the key
