I personally believe god was made up by people who new no better like 1000's of yrs ago and am amazed people still devote and restrict their lives (ok not really that amazed), you only live once and all that so the thought of wasting your whole life following few 1000 yr old story makes me think believers are dillusional. I think the bible is a story book/guide written by lots of people who new very little like 2000 yrs ago

"The difference between a believer and a scientist is if proof of god was given to the scientist he would then believe, whereas if proof that god did not exist was given to the believer he would still believe" Badly quoted

Real answers are found with science, not all but advanced technolgy is still relatively new, but at least it is fact, it explains us

Must add, i dont think belief is bad and i think it can help people lead very healthy lives, but alot of wars and violence is caused by religon i can't help but think people need 2 open their eyes

There are so many different religions and all of them believe they worship ''the one and only true god''

Honestly, i dont know what i believe in anymore. But i respect all religions.

I pray. But i when i do i act as though i am searching inside myself for the answers, otherwise i feel like no one else is listening ''god''. Everyone has that ''higher self'' that they pray to. I know they do.

That is my religion.

I am a christian.

here are a few of the most convincing reasons I can think of to belive in a religion:

Apart from a minority condemmed by other belivers, religious people tend to lead happier, more law abiding lives. I know there are examples where this has gone horribly wrong but you know what I mean. the prioncipals on which religion is based were not made up by selfish human beings.

Jesus. whether or not you belivie him to be the son of god, the man existed. there are litteraly thousands of original documents which talk about him (more than mention cesar). either

- this man was mad (he said he was the son of god quite a lot), or

- he was a very good con man who endured teribble hardships eg being crucifed, even though denying this would have save his life, or

- he was actually the son of god (the bible explains this although since we ran out of first centuary jews it has become difficult to understand).

Testimonials, many non Christians have not heard of these. they are basicaly peoples stories about being christians (i dont know about other religions). often strength, which comes from no where when people ask god for help, is mentioned or people experiancing overwhelmiong emotion. this is VERY common. If you ever ask about testimonials in a church there will probably be a few and they often include events which cannot be explained logically.

Love. not logical not scientific, wonderful. where has this come from?

I would question the view that religion has caused wars. I think you will find that there are almost always alternate motives.

Finally, I would like to ask any atheist: do you not belive in what cant be explained? in Stephen Hawkins book a history of time he says how some things in the universe cannot be explained. he puts these things down to devine intervention.

The thing is scientists have never proven that God is NOT real. And, following the bible does not restrict your life. It has many scriptures that will actually help you to live a much healthier/fuller life. In many ways the bible is a guide for better living. It has an answer for any question that you might have concerning life and living.Sure you may only live once, but why should you participate in things that will eventually destroy you in the end??? All in the name of a good time / fun??? That's what's dillusional. Enjoy now suffer tomorrow. Is it worth it?? Real answers are found in your guide to better living (The Bible) now that's a fact. And guess what? It doesn't take tehnology to figure that out. You're right, belief is not bad and I must add a lot of wars and violence are caused by technology. For example "weapons of mass destruction". Finally you're right, people need to open their eyes starting with you. Sure the bible is a collection of stories but none of them teaches us to hate or kill one another. It teaches us how to love your neighbor as yourself. It teaches us that killing is wrong. It teaches us that adultery is wrong and many other morally correct ideals. This country was built on the fundamental belief that God is real. Look at our currency. It clearly states "One Nation Under God". Was the fore fathers of this great country dillusional?? If you think they were crazy don't fool with that paper stuff called money. Will it take a scientist to help you figure out you are hungry and need money for food? Finally, don't knock it until you've tried religion for yourself. Pray, ask God to come into your heart. You'll be amazed. I promise, you will find out that he is real.

I disagree with you on the fact that there is no God and the statement that we are wasting our lives. Personally I think I would live the same way that I do now (minus the praying) with or without my beliefs. I also agree with you that the Bible is a guide on how to live more then a word for word document, but I believe that the information in it is factual. I also must side with you on the fact that people need to be more open minded about other religions, but wars have been fought for worse reasons than religion.

I'm Apostolic, which is pentecostal. We are a part of the United Pentecostal Church International(to be technical). I believe in the oneness of God, that salvation is based on Acts 2:38, distinction between male/female is essential, a literal hell/heaven, holy living, and that we are called to be a holy separated people in this world. I believe in creation entirely and literally. I believe that creation and scientist not only compliment but complete each other.

I know that we can't prove that there is or isn't a god.

I believe that we have evolved to care very much for people who we empathise with even to giving up our lives for them and also to kill our enemies.

We are sometimes able to empathise with our enemies seeing them as like us.

I think that inspiration in religion is like creativity in art and some kinds of madness.

I think that we have evolved to be creative and religious, because it helps us bond and fight our foes.

I don't think any of the religions except Buddhism are logical, although they say some good things

I think Jesus was a great philosopher and it's a pity divinity was attributed to him

I think that religions are also in danger of being corrupted by money and power - most are today

I think that fundamentalism is the reaction of anxious communities to change they can't cope with, and that it seriously weakens countries and peoples

I think it possible that god like beings have emerged or will emerge in the life of the universe

I don't think having a God helps to explain the origins of the universe. It just complicates matters

I think that evolution very well explains why we are like we are. the evidence is obvious

I think that we can't afford primitive beliefs and conflicts as we are very venerable on this world

I look at the stars and I know there's a God.

he's pretty busy creating galaxies, a scientist somewhere took a video of it happening during September to December 2002.

I'm an designer and a cartoonist and know there's gotta be A Designer to the universe.

For me, if there's no God, looking out for me, then my life has no relevance, it means nothing. I'm here to be born, eat, sleep then die. What's that all for? Nothing.

There's gotta be more to THIS life.

if you start to read the bible for one hour everyday, i guarantee your life will change unbelievably within a few months.

let us know how it goes! : )

I'm a Christian and I truly believe in God/Jesus/Holy Spirit. A lot of people ask me why and my reasons are that....

1. How could the world just appear
2. How could we just become alive?
3. How could the stars and planets form?

Can you answer those questions? I can. God created the Heavens and the Earth. He is all powerful and all knowing. It might be amazing to you that I can put all my trust in Something I cannot see, but it's just how I've been through so many things and without my faith in the Lord, I wouldn't be her responding to this 'question'. Awww now I'm crying. But that's my faith.

Well look at it this way:

You have maybe 70-80 years here on earth to do as you like, only to die eternally in the spirit afterwards.

OR you can love and serve the Lord here on earth for those same 70-80 years and then live in eternal bliss.

That's a real no brainer, eh?

the bible doesn't contradict with science.
the whole theory of evolution, the bible doesn't argue with it!
animals were made the 5th day. humans were made the sixth. In Gods measurement of time, a day could be millions of years! there is no contradiction! the world can't create itself someone created it and it's god. don't think of god as a person! he's a spirit that has control of everything! there is a god! if there wasn't you wouldn't be living.
