Obviouly, because we will miss them. But the following verses give one hope that our soul leaves our body to go to the Lord if we are believers. If one is not a believer it goes to a place like the rich man in the Lazarus story with a large gulf between the believers with God and those unbelievers waiting for judgement and/or the millenium.
However,
II Corinthians 5:6-8
"Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
For we walk by faith, not by sight:
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

It just hurts knowing that you will never, ever see that person walk the face of this earth again and not everyone goes to a better place! When we die, the Lord gives us rest and when judgment day comes, our eternal fate will be determined! So basically, all the people you know who are dead, are resting until judgment day!

Just because they go to somewhere better does not mean that they will not be missed. The people crying loved the person who passed away.

People cry to show their sorrow. Even though you know that ______(insert name here) has passed away (hopefully to Heaven), you still need to 'vent' or 'let out your sorrow'. Crying is actually much better than just saying your okay. Then next time you feel sad you can remember that crying won't bring them back.

Depends on the person. I cried at my uncle's funeral because I knew that he didnt believe in God and I wanted with all my heart for him to escape his drug addiction and turn his life around. Not everyone goes to a 'better place'.
For those that are believers...we call it a 'home going' and its tears of joy for them to be with Him..and a little bit of our selfishness that the person has been taken away from us.

Because we miss them.
Not everyone who dies goes to a better place. Only if they knew Christ. But all have had a fair opportunity to choose.

I don't want to be rude but let's put it this way....
You have your family and you love your family soooo much....
one day someone die from a disease....
the big question is what is it that you are going to feel...
great pain....
you wished that you have spend more time with her....
great great pain.....
tears on your face like rivers.....
if you don't get it, you need some help

Because people are naturally more 'self-inclined'. They realize that they can't have the person anymore and don't want to give them up. After a while we realize, however, that if we believe in the Lord than we will see them again.
