Sup guys, Im thinking about buying a 1974 Dodge Charger, it has a 318 with headers, and an H pipe and an intake. Other than that, i believe its stock. The interior is in terrible shape, and the exterior isnt that great either.. Would it be hard to find parts for the interior, things such as new seats and door pannels?
and also, the man wants 2700 or best offer, think its worth it?
Havent taken it for a drive, or even talked to the guy yet, just stopped by and checked it out on the way home.
also anyone know the specs for that year charger? how many ponies does that baby have stock?
Anything at all will be greatly appericated.
Thanks a lot.

I don't know a lot about the Chargers but I'd check in to it real good if I were you. The 318 was a base motor for Chrysler products, not a performance engine. I see a lot of the old Mustangs that are pawned off as GT's when they really aren't. The same may be done with other makes. Badges and trim do not a muscle car make. Also look here http://www.nadaguides.com/home to get the average and best prices on cars, new old or otherwise.

I don't think I'd spring for that particular car. The reasons are as you stated (needs interior and exterior work and it has been modified, which means it probably has been beaten half to death). It'll cost you an arm and a leg, plus three toes from the other foot to buy a new interior and get the body in a decent configuration. Of course, if you're planning on restoring and swapping in a new motor anyway, then it might be worth around two thousand dollars, depending upon body condition. There are many other Chargers available for similar money that sound like they'd be in better condition; shop around. Good luck!

Mopars are the most collectable car out there that is affordable. $2700 isn't too bad especially if there isn't a lot of rust. If the paint is bad and it just looks like crap that is no big deal. The big deal is rust. The interior also isn't that hard to repair. Cosmetic items scare the crap out of you and make you pass on a good car. The key is the rust........that's not cosmetic.......that's structure.
You can do a lot to a 318. It didn't come as a "performance" motor but there are plenty of parts out there to make it one. All the 340 and most of the 360 stuff fits on that block.
Remember this. Buy a car you like.......don't worry about the money. If you want to restore it you probably won't get all your money out of it.......at least not for a few years and depending on the kind of job you do on it.

I'm thinking the stock ponies were 190 for a 1974 318.I would check with year one for availability of interior parts or call a local interior shop.If the seat frames are good and the inner door panels are still good a good interior guy can redue them.

I personally would jump on it depending on the shape of the body. Dont be fooled by the 318 there are a few very inexpensive things you can do to make that mopar chew up and spit out a 5.0 mustang of JUST about any caliber!!!!

that's a big car not much horse power involved with that one, drop a 440 in it and you got something, right now a volks wagon could beat it,i use to own one,you can go to this site and they have all the parts for that car you,ll ever need should you decide to buy it,but its not running any horse power right now,so don't expect miracles from it good luck,, http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?cat=1

your big challenge here are replacement body panels as not a lot is reproduced
If you restore it it will never be worth what you put into it - but it is a hobby - just so you are clear
If it was a 4 speed car or had a big block I would say perhaps
I personally would pass
