Insulin imbalalnce causes the body to store fat. Therefore sweets such as candy or a slice of bread will kick up the insulin to levels that willl cause the body to store fat. In turn the body will burn sweets such as candy faster than fat so when you are using sweets for an energy boost, fats will take a back seat. It will be put into storage until the sweets/carbs are used up. So many people cannot go without carbs and they answer that call with carbs. Therefore fat goes into storage.

They have lots of sugar, which doesn't "contain" fat, but your body will quickly turn the sugar into fat because it doesn't have nutritional value.

Because of the sugar. Any of that sugar that your body does not use as energy, it stores the sugar as fat.
