It seems to me that our society has regressed to The Roaring Twenties, where only 1% of people own 90% of the country's wealth, spending it on deliberately wasteful and conspicuous consumption. The remaining parts of the New Deal which still exist on the books are being obeyed in name only. The jobs which the middle class depends on have been dismantled, replaced, and sold overseas. The remaining jobs involve dumbed-down service and sales occupations that need only a high school education but require a bachelor's degree or in some cases a master's to get hired for.
Hiring of undocumented workers only makes it worse, but on the other hand I understand that even though I am jobless I am not starving, but these other people are escaping from a place where they are starving.
I am of the opinion that we need to sanction the corporate hiring of undocumented workers as a civil matter rather than a criminal one. Undocumented workers should pay a 5% to 10% federal surtax on gross income, to be returned to the states as block grants to refund the extra costs of caring for these people and integrating them into society.
This is not amnesty. This is "pay your own way".
Corporations should also pay by matching the surtax on gross salaries paid to undocumented workers, with this money reserved for providing retraining services for displaced citizens.

Anyone who does'nt realize by now that the Everyday American has been sold out by our Government and Corporate America is living in a fantasy world. Cheap labor is the name of the game and Americans cannot work as cheap as people from 3 rd world countries. ( Example) An American family, Husband, wife,2 children 1 boy ,1girl. Must have a 3 bedroom home because the children have to have seperate rooms. But illegals can put as many people in a house as they want because they do not have to abide by our laws. This allows illegals to work for less money Than an American. NAFTA is part of this corruption,Truckers beware. It costs more for an American to live in America than it does for illegals. The government says we need these workers, and have illegals believing that work would come to a stop in this country without them. They did not build this country for the last 300 years Americans did!!!! There are homes in this country that are over 200 years old and still standing! I have seen new homes in this country built by illegals that are falling apart within a year, and who made the profit ? Corporate America or as I like to call them the Government.

If someone offered you a minimum wage or lower job would you leave your family and freinds to sneak into another country illegally to take that offer? They are not here to better themselves, they want a free ride on an illegal fantasy train to actually nowhere. The illegals are as much or more to blame to break the law for that stupid offer. You and I know that there is more than a job at issue here. The employers should have to do jail ime and pay huge fines as well but the illegals came here, are we to ignore that?

They definatly hold a huge chunk of the responsibility. We have laws to protect us and they still abuse workers.....we atleast quit and moved on....with the influx of illegals they have been able to continue their behavior without fear of complaint. They would have had to change their act or leave the country to continue on....now they have a never ending supply of willing people. I guess what angers me is the attitude of so many illegals that alot of this abuse isn't new or hasn't just started because of them......they have just made it all that much harder to fight for change. And definately have their anger directed at the wrong people concerning this.
One person made a comment on how they think if we all sent them back this economy would crumble. It's already crumbling....it's crumbling from the very weight of them right now and the global inconsistancy of competing in an unfair and unequal market . I'd just as soon every rip off cheap company leave.....we're going down either way as it stands now......I hate slow lingering deaths myself. People can't survive in this country on the low wages these companies want to pay and the tax payer can't afford to keep making up the difference with all the freebies. It's gonna go.....now or later.....if the illegals are gone...atleast it's one less problem to worry about.
Corporate America and their never ending quest for money is the root of many problems....here and abroad. Heck.....when's the last time you got 54 MILLION dollars when you were fired? Billion dollar bonuses.....per year. Greed is at the root of it. You can't keep closing businesses for the search for cheap labor and then allow 20 million people here illegally and think something isn't going to blow. We don't have a shortage of people willing to work. We have a shortage of living wage jobs.

More than they want anyone to know!!!
Basically there are two types of corporate America that are to blame.
Those who have convinced themselves and the society that using the illegals and avoiding all the government required costs for hiring American citizens is their only sure way of staying ahead in profit making. of course the rest of the U.S. has to foot the bills of billions and billions of dollars for educating the anchor babies who wouldn't even speak "OUR" language, health care that has become the care system for half of Mexico, prison, overpopulation, destroyed Ecosystem....etc
Then there are banks and mortgage companies who would lobby till they puke so they can get the federal government to loosen the banking/property owning regulations even more so than those set up for regular citizens, so these illegals could "FULFILL THEIR BLOODY ILLEGAL AMERICAN DREAMS" While law abiding citizens get stuck with endless red tapes and bureaucracy.

I believe that some sectors of corporate America are definitely to blame for the illegal alien problem.
The reason illegals come here is mainly for the jobs. If we can deny them employment there would be no incentive for them to come here, and those already here, finding their jobs gone, would go back to their own countries.
That's why I support any effort that penalizes employers who hire illegal aliens. It should be done - it must be done.

If even half came for jobs (they do not), then corporate America is to blame for a majority of that half (home-owners hire day-laborers in front of the Homey Deport...uh..I mean the Home Depot).

They simply took advantage of lax enforcement by the government. The pressure needs to be turned up on employers that scoff at the law and hire illegals. I don't buy products from companies that I know hire them. Purdue poultry, Dole etc.
