I don't have a lot of time (an hour) before kids start coming around, and I want to do something scary, but nothing offensive. Obviously a costume and/or anything elaborate is out.

Any simple ideas that are fun? I was thinking I could put the candy in this bowl I have that has a hole in it. And put it on a table at the door. When kids say trick or treat, my boyfriend will tell them to open the lid, and my hand will come out (with some fake blood) and scare them and then hand them the candy. Good idea?

good ... but if ur b/f tells them to open the lid, then they might suspect something..

maybe keep ur hand at the bottom of the bowl without a lid, cover it all up with candy - and then lift ur hand out really fast when the kids are close enough

Wear all black and either lay out in the yard and get up and scare them, hide under a table with candy and grab them when the reach for it... etc...

Instead of giving them candies, give them vegetables.
