I'm really worried that people are going to react differently to me. I wouldn't want to sound "big headed" but i'm not ugly just average

I'm 18 in a couple of months which means i will be going clubbing etc and im really worried this is going to ruin my confidence

What would be your opinion be of a 17 - 18 year old with braces

No word of a lie, I was exactly 17 when I got my brace fitted. I'd just started seeing this boy then too and when I told him (on our first date) that I was getting a brace, he joked that maybe we'd end up stapling our lips together. That was his queue to try for a kiss. It was nice of him to joke about it, but not be nasty.

My teeth are perfect now, and I am so glad I took the plunge. I had a fixed brace for 2 years and it's a decision I'd encourage anyone to do. Honest. Don't worry. Go for it. So for a year or 2 you'll smile with open mouth less, but by god, you'll smile with confidence after it's over. Good luck. Honest. Go for it!!

Hey don't worry, I have been in the same predicament. It was fine. Plus there are poeple older than you going into braces as well.

What you have to remember is that you are going to have nice teeth at the end. I sometimes got irriated by my brace, but I look now and have no regrets; the compliments you get after your brace should be fabulous. Furthermore, you say you aren't ugly, well that should overshine your brace, don't worry.

To help maybe, just don't go picking like bright coloured bands for your brace, you know like lime green and yellow or whatever (it looks so stupid- it''s a failed attempt to make something look better). The orthodontist should be able to provide silver- you may think it just looks like loads more metal but believe me you look so much better. Please don't worry, you will be fine.

I wish you a dazzling smile!!!

Nothing wrong with it! People won't notice it as much as you do, to be honest. Just think of how pretty your smile will be soon! Maybe, if you can afford them, you can get the white braces or the invisible ones. But don't worry, most of the time we worry too much about the way we look and other people don't even notice the little things. You'll be fine! Be thankful that you have the money to get them corrected, I've known of people who can't even get them fixed.

Its your age and immaturity that make you self conscious. Actually when you look around the teeth are so bad, my guess is people will think your affluent if you can afford braces. In a few years you'll look back and see you are really good looking not just average, and you will remember being painfully shy for no need. Alot of us were in that club at that age. Like when we were 5 and thought the world revolved around dolls. You grow up to new realities.

Well, my 40 something year old(maybe 30) science teacher, has braces. She said that they are invisible and she'll be paying for them for the next 10 years. But i guess its pretty much worth it for some pearly whites! Maybe go with invisible ones or the ones that face toward your throat. They cost a little more, but its all worth it in the end!

P.s. Don't you have to be 21 and over to get into a club?

Nobody will even notice! Do you know how many adults even get braces nowadays? Just be happy that your teeth will be corrected and in a year or two you can show your white pearls again and everybody goes Oh and Ah....
