12 year-old boy, or girl?

It means he is 12. To quote the sage Keanu Reeves from Parenthood "That's just what little dudes do."

In all seriousness, it means that the man of the house if there is one, needs to tell him that while this is normal for a kid his age, there are appropriate places for the activity.

The more honest, open talk about your personal feelings about sex the better. The topic is difficult at first but becomes easier the more times you discuss it. The other thing to remember, is that at 12, your opportunities for influencing him the way you want to are fading fast.

What ever you decide to do. Never, ever shame your child over this topic. You will do irreparable harm if you do.

This means that you have to have a talk with your son. He may not know that you know.

Tell him that he is growing up to a young man and that his body is changing. Then mention that one of the ways he is changing is sexually and that comes with grown up responsibilities. As a Christian he would be expected to practice some self control over his sexuality.

Tell him that the next time you catch him masturbating you are not only going to stop him but you will make him lead in the night prayers.

I'm no child psychologist, but I'd guess it means that you need to have a gentle and understanding conversation with him about the need for privacy when "exploring the body." The same way that there are boundaries for where you change clothes or go to the bathroom, there is an appropriate time and a place for these things.

*Edit* -- and after going through your previous Q&A's, I'm guessing that this whole thing is fabricated.

I think 12 is old enough to pray on his own. He's developing into a young man...privacy will be very important for him until he's around 40. hehe

It's perfectly natural, just give him space and try not to embarass him about it.

This means that he is fighting his own demons. Are you a spiritual person? Person of God? If so you need to talk to him and let him know how you feel about this and what the Scriptures say about self indulgence. Masturbation is not talked about in the Bible but I believe it is assosiated with sexual desire, lust, and fornication. He is still young and hitting his teen years and it can be hard to suppress desires one is having. Talk to him about sex and the morals and ethics that you wish to be religiously practiced in your family. God bless

damn that's like some mission impossible type of masturbating. maybe he likes breakin the laws of masturbation. 1 never get caught by anyone. 2 never do it while praying 3 never leave the stains on your covers. do you guys live in a trailer or something. if you know he's doing it why do you still continue your routine of nightly prayers with him. either that or he's possessed by satan.

talk ab bad timing.....gross!
It means you need to explain to him whats appropriate in certain situations. All boys will do this, but honestly, does he really need to do it during the prayer?

the sexual experimenting is normal but, not at that time. I would confront him about it if you are sure. Find out why he chooses THAT time to do this. This sounds like a spiritual problem.

Wow. Is there a father figure present? Because I think this is his area. :) If you're the father then I would have a talk with him. And be nice about it. He's only 12.
