Some people asked earlier about what a R&S get together would look like. Now I would like to ask: if there were an R&S convention, who would you like to see lecture? What classes would the R&S regulars teach? If just one person were to be elected to represent a religion/belief system, who would that be for Christian, Pagan, atheist, Islam, Wiccan etc?

This sounds fun! I say we go paint-balling. Now tell me you would not like to pop a few paint caps on the people that bug you on here.

I think the best person to lead the convention would be a person that is fairly neutral. I person that has studied all major religions and has an academic point of view, but still respects that most people believe in their religion without studding it from an academic stand-point. Still I think that this person would need to believe that there is a God or Being of some sort, but does not prescribe to any one particular religion. Although they would set up structure for the convention, their main job would be as a mediator and not as a speaker.

I'd be afraid that CBG would come in shooting at the atheists.
I'd like to see Universal Pants lecture on the merits of secular humanism, and Pangel lecture on tolerance. There's so many R&S regulars that I'd like to hear from, I'm afraid to start listing for fear that I'd leave out someone important. We could have a lot of the atheists here on R&S do standup comedy, though. There are a lot of atheists with a good sense of humor on here.
Too tough to pick representatives for each religion.

I think there would be too much tension, then fights as a result of too many people and too many beliefs in one place. It's nice to dream about though.
In an ideal setting, I would go to all the classes that I could. I'd like to see so many people lecture, no one in particular, everyone have a chance :)

I've thought about this; I see a big room filled with people who regularly post here in this forum. People would log in with their yahoo id's so everybody would know who is in the room then the guessing game would begin. People would go around the room trying to guess which people are which avatars. This would be so much fun!

If I wanted to be lectured, I would go to school or to see my parents. I'll show up for the after hours reception tho.

Batgurl for Christians, Pangel for Pagans, Bettierage for atheists. Then we can have a special idiots conference where CJ, Crusader/Francine and others can gather.
Oh, and we won't let the fundies eat until they watch films about evolution.

good question actually
I would hope there would be basically one rule, speakers have the floor, audience listens to what is said, questions are sent forward to the speaker so that order is maintained.
as far as whom would lead it, I have no problem who lead it as long as they don't mumble, whine or ramble.
perhaps we could do this on a webcast with various speakers talking, (pre-recorded perhaps and edited even)
sounds fun
count me in

I wouldn't really mess around with the lecturing and what not - just put me in charge of the buffet and I'd be good.
