I think there is such thing as a stupid question. If I tell you that the sky is blue, then you turn around two seconds later and ask me what color the sky is, that's a stupid question because I just told you the answer so you should already know. Unless you're a goldfish.

There is no such thing as a stupid question. Although sometimes they sound stupid when the answer seems obvious (at least to the observer), or inconsequential.

Even smart people may occasionally ask a stupid questions.
I heard one person ask if a flight of stairs went up or down... Whether it was a smart person with a temporary "glitch" or just an all around idiot is still unknown.

My math teacher used to tell me that all the time. When people tell me they have a stupid question I tell them that.
I don't agree with it, but it's hilarious.
