If not so, then why is it believed that George Washington was a Christian and a deist, and that Albert Einstein was a Jew and a deist?

You can't be a deist believes in a non-interventionist God and a Christian/Jew/Muslim believes in an interventionist God, two beliefs at odds with one another.

Well George Washington could be culturally Christian meaning that grew up in a predominately Christian society and did not actively regret the theology, while his personal beliefs are deist.

Einstein is easier because while he did not believe in Judaism he was ethnically and culturally Jewish and actively stated his Jewish identity throughout his lifetime.
