CA DMV law requires motorists to prove they have auto insurance. If you do not pay for it monthly, the company notifies the DMV, and the license is revoked. Have you ever known an illegal to get auto insurance? You hand them a license, I guarantee they are going to abuse it, as it is a major form of ID and required for many public services. They come in illegally, and you and I both know this, so what makes you think they will adhere to a law requiring them to pay a monthly insurance fee? But this isnt about right vs. wrong, insured vs. uninsured. This is about the dems wanting the latino vote. Enjoy.

Nope, I lived in California for 20 years and there were tons of uninsured motorists with driver's licenses. Some politicians in California actually favor allowing illegal immigrants to vote! Go figure!
A driver's license for these people just legitimizes their illegal presence in the U.S. Deal with the problem instead by requiring immigrants to enter the country lawfully - or risk DEPORTATION.
I get tired of all the sob stories of deportation which gloss over the fact that the people being deported aren't supposed to be here, have been consuming social services for years and deliberately avoided entering the country the correct and legal way.
In summary - don't give them driver's licenses or free social services - they are not entitiled to them!

No....they will cry they can't afford it. It would be nice if there were enough people to follow up on canceled insurance....or out-of-state license plates on cars etc.....but they don't. We have our own citizens driving without insurance.......this isn't going to do squat to insure our safety. This is just another diminishing of any and all of our rights and privileges as a citizen. We've had stories in our paper where illegals are committing the same exact crime as a citizen and the citizen gets creamed with fines and jail etc.....while they wash, wax and shine the illegals car before they hand them back the keys....knowing full well they are illegal...no drivers license....and no insurance....phony ID's.......it's disgusting. If the Dems want them.....they can have them.....they just need to run in Mexico instead of here.....should feel right at home there.

They would be required to show proof of auto insurance when applying for their license, but they would cancel it shortly thereafter.
Happens all the time. Nothing is done about it because there is no follow up done unless the person is stopped for a traffic violation. Then they would get found out and probably get a slap on the wrist.

I would be more concerned that they can use the license to vote.
That is what I feel the democrats want. They like having illegals here as they will support them.
As for insurance, what makes you believe they will get it???
They do drive now with out a license and insurance.

This is NOT a DEMS and CONS issue dips*it. Both of those parties like the current status quo and labelling it as a DEM only issue shows how polarized you are politically.
I am an independant and I want to get rid of ALL illegals, so if working with DEMS or CONS is part of what it takes to achieve that, then so be it.

The problem is that it doesnt really work that way. It only applies if you OWN a vehicle. So, you have to prove insurance one time and thats when you take your driving test. After that, if you don't own a vehicle, you are not required to have insurance.

Yes, it would require them to have insurance to drive...like everyone else. And it can be enforced the same way like the rest of us. No insurance no plates etc.

i believe in ny that is required. i know there is some illegal immigrants that have insurance.that only represents a small percentage and their insurance is normally just one that is sold from a store, not progresive or anything like it.

if they were legal or illegal does not matter. Either way if they are not insured you got problems, so why not insure everyone.
