I've heard the cats never fall in. Is this true?

This website gives a fantastic description of all the steps you'd need to go through. I've never actually done it because I have too many cats and not enough time. However, there's no doubt in my mind that you could use this method very successfully.

There are products you can buy that do the transition gradually, but a lot of cats just don't like to use a box off the floor.

PLUS any cat who falls in while trying to poop or pee on the toilet will revert to not wanting to use it and be desperate for a litter box again--you'll have a cat pooping and peeing around the house because the toilet is 'dangerous'.

good question... i was going to do that myself until i noticed my cat was drinking out of the toilet rather than share water with my roomies dogs.

from what i understand, you move the litter box next to the toilet for a few days, then on top of the toilet for a few days, then use a bowl or something toilet seat sized and use less and less litter until you can loose the bowl completely ( a clear bowl might work better, or some saran wrap over the seat with some litter spread on it

check pet stores... i did see a toilet trainer litter box once, but like i said, she was drinking out of the toilet so i said to heck with it.

Ok What is wrong with the litter box?

I guess try putting her there every time she is about to use the box.
The toilet is not so safe for her, she could fall in and drown.

I have seen a type of litter box that goes on top of the toilet. The idea is that they learn to go to that place and somehow transfer to using it. I haven't tried it, but it would certainly save a lot of money and mess.

It can be done, with a lot of time, energy and patience. And the family has to be trained to leave the lid up. See the link.
