For example I heard news that a fundamentalist group (claiming to be a Christian church) staged a protest on a marines funeral. I believe the marine may have been gay. The fundamentalist group was protesting with signs speaking out agains homosexuals at the mans funeral. That is tacky, uncalled for and MOST DIFFENATELY not the acts of Christians. I really and truely hope you do not think REAL CHRISTIANS act this way. Trust me we don't.

You're probably talking about Westboro Baptist "church". They are not Christians, let alone fundamentalists. You can tell the difference by how the person acts. The "fruit of the Spirit", or signs that someone is really a Christian, are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

In my life time there are people who have awed me with there christianity. We really can't know all the story about a person, but the humility that I have encountered has floored me on occasion. A fellow nurse being screamed at with obsenities and slapped, only to see her give the elderly patient a hug and humbly ask if she could do anything to make her more comfortable? This patient thru her arms around the nurse and sobbed. I had experienced a living saint. She told me this lady was behaving this way because of her pain. My heart and head learn a lesson of a life time that day. There are other examples and each has changed my life, by example of being Christ to one another. There are truely angels on earth..

The Bible says we are to judge them only by their fruit. A true follower of Christ will produce a life full of the fruit of the spirit. When Jesus was here on earth the scriptures say he came not to condemn the world but that the world may have live more abundantly. He ate with sinners and addressed those who would have his stop this behavior by saying that this is why he came.

Consider that if you were a great doctor would you minister only to the well, or would you seek the ill to minister to their ailments? When we stop believing that the sins of others are more sinful than our own maybe we will begin to acquire some of the grace that is extended to us.

Remember that we must forgive in order to be forgiven.

God bless the family of that young Marine.

I believe real Christians have little need to boast or measure their faith against that of others. Jesus brought a message of love and humility, of acceptance and forgiveness. It is a difficult standard to live up to, especially in a nation where we so value pride and individual achievement, and where faith has come to be seen as some kind of competition. For those who slip, or who don't even know enough to try, the best response is prayer and forgiveness, not condemnation. "Judgement is mine, sayeth the Lord."

That's terrible. I think if anyone claims to be any religion he or she should act like it. All major religions have basically the same values--love the creator, love one another, and so on. Sometimes it's pretty easy to spot a hypocrite, and other times it's hard. But let's face it, we've all been hypocrites at some time in our life.

I have been deeply burned by a Christian minister. That was when I converted to Judaism. However, for the most part I have found real Christians to be honest & decent people.

That marine wasn't gay, this was some nut fringe group that was claiming that their was a link between the US' handling of gays and soldiers dying in Iraq. It was shame-full, and detestable. Be careful though, we are all hypocrites in some way or another maybe not to that extreme but we do all fall short of the glory.

That sounds like Fred Phelps and his "Westboro Baptist Church." They aren't following Christ's teachings, so they certainly aren't fundamentalists. They're just a crowd of haters calling themselves a church in order to appear legitimate.

Jesus said, "By their fruits ye shall know them."

Even tho the Bible states homosexuality is wrong, a true righteous Christian does not openly blame or judge anyone, regardless of their actions.

You can't always tell the difference, but most of the time you can sense a genuine spirit in those who know the Lord. Those doing what you mention are sad excuses for genuine Christians and I can't say that they are not born again, but what they are doing certainly has no grounds in the Word of God.
