I've kind of been searching for a good, solid religion I could really get into the past few years. I was raised in a Pentecostal church (which makes me very uncomfortable-- too many sad songs, tongues and praising Jesus)... About 3 years ago I decided to go through catechism, but was doing it for all the wrong reasons. I like the idea behind the Saints in the Catholic religion and how private and traditional it seems, but I wasn't born Catholic, so it would take a lot of effort to learn. I do believe in one God, but am also very interested and believe in astrology and tarot (I'm sure that makes me a horrible person)... I'm not real sure where I fit in on the grand scheme of things... I wouldn't mind learning about Paganism but my Mom would have MAJOR issues with that (she's still w/ Assembly of God) ... I want something nature oriented, star oriented, one God oriented, saint incorporating, private and traditional... help??

Religion is there to explain or give insight into things that are not clear. A religion is an organisational structure, a faith is a interactive, living and real relationship with God. Dont take this the wrong way but plenty of people have theories about who God is and it is mainly based off their own opinions and what they 'feel' is right, but in the end not everyone is right. Two ways people generally look at it is...
1) God must be a collection of all things people believe which implies that God is something that is made up by a man(men) and is there for them.
2) God is God, we are called to understand who God is, which in turn then says that there are all the theories about who God is but there will only ever be one correct one.
To create a religion is to start something that best suits you and is in fact idolatry because you are 'worshipping' something that you have created and what you deem to be right.
It is generally easy for a Pentecostal and Catholic to fluctuate from one to the other in either dirrection. The problem with the catholic church is that their is little depth for the average person in the church (i was brought up one) and they have the traditional teaching of the church and what men have said as the highest authority. They are very similar in the sense that they both are majorly revolving around works, Catholic is like you do these things to be a good person to go to heaven, Penticoastal is 'speak in tounges to show that there is an indwelling' both very similar ideas.
I attend both a contempory Bretheran and Baptist church. In doing so i have learned to use the bible as the absolute truth and i trust in that because, when you read it then you see that it does not contradict and is a beautiful story of love and redemption. Basicly there are things that you have just got to believe and then they become clearer as you learn more. If you are interested in Astrology i would recommend having a look at a DVD called indescribale can pick it up from any christian bookshop, look online for one near you and it is apparantly awesome.
Lastly, in the Christian Church (not penticostal or catholic) they believe that all who are born of God are saints. The apostal Paul refferes to many people as saints. Those born of God.
Christianity is based around a few main points.
1) Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God"
everyone sins if not then ask youself simply,
*Have you ever told a lie (everyone does), 10 commandments says do not lie.
*do not take the lords name in vain (most people do), 10 commandments says do not blashpheme
*ever hated someone, jesus says if you even hate a brother it is the same as murdering him in your heart
2) Romans 6:23 "For the wages (just deserves) of sin is death but the gift of God is Life in Christ Jesus our Lord"
3) Romans 6:5 "If we have been united with Christ in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his ressurection"
Basicly, Christ came and bore the sins of those whom he has chosen, they will believe in him and follow him. These people are saved not based on their own merrit but on Christ, the only one who is worthy. The hardest part is that many people die in their sins and thats it...they die and go to hell and it takes all of eternity to pay for them, Christ because of his worth bore them in a matter of hours on the cross.
I would say seek to know what is truth and be open, chrsitianity covers most aspects of what you said above you just need to find a good church and people who are actually concerned about knowing who God is. Not ficticous rituals

I would say pray and ask God to find you a fellowship that is right for you
I believe in Astronomy (used to believe in astrology but God delivered me from that ), love nature, plants, trees, animals and people, believing God created them all and I worship the creator more than His creation
Ask God for the power of His Holy Spirit ( I know about Assembly of God, was raised in it and feel that they are stuck, come of them are not going on with God; the churches including the Pentecostals, mostly in name only are all stuck in religion and tradition, God bless 'em) but like you I want reality~ask, seek, knock and it shall be opened unto you
you really need to get Jesus in your heart and let Him lead you~He knows what His plan is for you and it is good

Wow you want it all. Sorry but God does not like you using tarot and studying astrology.
You need to pray and study the Bible. You need to put a little effort into finding God.

well at least we know that God is telling you something must be done to change the direction your going.
all i can say is that if you are sincere and your pray read
and search hard enough you will find the way.
it won't include astrology or tarot cards, just so you know.

Why pick a religion and then limit the scope of your beliefs to that religion alone? Why not do your own thing?
