I am having a difficult time remembering short-term things like what I had for dinner yesterday. I forget new people's names about 10 minutes after I meet them. I find myself sometimes re-reading a paragraph in a book if I get distracted for a minute. Should I be concerned? What should I do?

When I write notes, I forget about them. When I repeat things even a dozen or more times I still forget.

Are you on any meds? Some psych meds can cause memory problems you may want to look into that if you are on psych meds. If you are on psych meds and you think they are causing you memory problems you can try here for help it's www.paxilprogress.org. They have helped people who have had side effects from different psych meds.

Some things to consider: is this something new? Has there been any major changes in your life recently? Have you ever been diagnosed with depression? Did you have trouble sitting still as a child?

Short -term memory lapses are fairly common, and there are all sorts of things that can cause this to happen. Common causes are depression; attention deficit disorder; and emotional shock from events like divorce, death, etc.; side effects of drugs; sleep disorders; being sick with a cold or flu; old age (greater than 60); and a whole bunch of other things.

There's no reason to be concerned if you can trace the problem to one of the above causes, or if the impairment is mild. If the problem doesn't go away after a week or two or if it gets worse, then its time to see a doc.

Yea some of these things happen to me. Like when i read, if im not consentrating 100%, i have no idea whats going on. I can remember people names, but the other day when i was studying for a french vocabulary test, i would look at a word, then look at another word, and forget the word i just read. Sure it is french, but i am good at French. And for other things, I can remember the first thing, but when i look at another thing, i totally forget. I think i have OCD, maybe thats what you have too

I don't think you should be worried i have it all the time. It can come form some learning problems where you have trouble with the left and right side of the brain talking to each other.
You can try the old trick of repeating thing three time such as a name when you meet some one or writing thing down. it helps me when i need to remember things.

rereading paragraphs isn't uncommon. I do it all the time :-)
you may need to see a doctor though of this kind of thing happens often. also, try eating a lot of spinach. Spinach is high in antioxidants which improve memory. This could just be a diet thing. make sure you're getting enough of every food group and enough sleep. Try that for a couple weeks before you go running to a doctor.

hope I helped!
