My buddy says he has 20/25, he's trying to tell me that his vision is far superior to my 20/20 vision. I'm pretty sure 20/20 is as good as it gets, right?

as others have said...20/20 is just normal vision. definitely not "perfect".

i have personally witnessed humans obtain 20/05 vision. thats *really* good acuity. much, much better than 20/20.

i have heard of patients obtaining 20/03 vision in a research setting. thats approaching the limits of human retinal cell layer resolution (would have to have more-densely-packed-than-average retinal receptors to obtain that kind of acuity).

so no...20/20 is not "perfect". but it is better than 20/25, so you see better than your buddy.

The first figure 20 indicates distance to read a chart or anything else. The second figure is the telling figure in strength of sight, Thus 20/05 means a person can read at 20 feet what others can read at five feet. Thus 20/05 is 4 times greater vision than 20/20.

20/25 means a person reads at 20 feet what others can read at 25 feet, so it is not as strong as the average 20.20 vision.

In the expression 20/20 the numerator indicates from what distance you can see what a statistically "normal" person can see from the same distance. Generally speaking this means that your vision is OK within statistical variations of normal. If you can function normally in your work and daily activities you're OK even if your visual acuity is less than 20/20.
By simple arithmetic 20/20 is better than 20/25.

actually 20/20 is considered "normal" vision. As for your boyfriend, if he is 20/25 his vision is worse than yours, the higher the numbers the worse the vision. To have better vision than 20/20, and that can happen, one would have a test like 20/16.

20/20 actually means you have perfect vision because it means that you can see 20 feet if a person with perfect vision can see 20 feet. So went your buddy says he has 20/25, that means he can only see 20 feet while another person with perfect vision is able to see 25 feet far away. You would be able to see 5 feet farther than your budd can. I would be feeling much more superior than your friend(don't tell him that).

20/20 vision is good enough. I don't know what the big deal is, vision is something that changes as you get older anyways.

20/20 means that you can read 20 point text at 20 feet. If he can read 20 point text at 25 feet, his vision is better.
