I am 14 and I was playing football during gym class today and I didn't catch the football right. pain radiated through my finger and it hurt so bad I almost cried. I had to hold my finger for like 20 minutes and whenever it hangs down it hurts so bad. I had ice on it for half the day bu an hour and a half after I take the ice off the finger starts to hurt again. It hurts when I bend the finger, when I move it around to much and it only really feels good w/ice on it. I need a solution so I don't have to keep getting ice at the nurse tomorow. I'm thinking of taping my fingers together but should I tape the pinky finger to the finger next to it. the one next to the pinky is the one that hurts but the pinky kind of hurts too. how do I tape it and do I need padding under both fingers or will tape be fine. It hurts so bad please help. I think I'm going to go get some more ice soon though because it has only been an hour and a half and it's hurting again. If I tape it together tomorow do you

Ice is supposed to be on for 15 mins and then off 15 mins, not continuously.

You can tape your ring finger to your middle finger. When it hurts, elevate it so that your hand is above your heart. Feel free to take ibuprophen.

If it is broken, an x-ray can confirm this big waste of time. All the doc can do is put a splint on it, but if you have a splint on your finger, your coach may not be able to let you play until the splint is off. Just tape them and if it starts to swell, turn purple or blue or is obviously broken or bent, then go to the doctor.

You definitely need an xray. Do not tape it with the other finger, but do tape it loosely to itself.

Sports Injuries

RICE
R - Rest
I - Ice (20m on, 20m off)
C - Compression (tape)
E - Elevation (above your heart)

Go to the dr. tomorrow and make sure it isn't broken.

You do need an xray, but in the mean time, just tape it to the finger next to it for support...RICE
