I also believe that it lies with the parents/guardians, but more in the environment they are raised in. Hate crimes will stop when we get past this line of tripe that we are all the same.

White, black, Hispanic, whatever. We are not all the same, but as a whole, we should take pride in our differences. More often than not, it's the differences that make relationships better, not worse. Celebration of our cultures within each others lives, but not to the DETRIMENT of other cultures is important. We need to learn more about balance, accountability for our lives and the richness people of differing life views can bring to us.

Until people choose to do these things to improve their own lives, no amount of legislation or controls will ever change this.

You should read up on reporter Daniel Pearl, his murder by beheading in Iraq, and Marianne Pearl, the woman left behind pregnant with their first child who believes in establishing a dialog between the cultures to prevent exactly that! The hatred among cultures that leads to crimes and abuse.

Marianne refuses to be angry at the murderers, because she believes that it would empower the terrorists who killed Danny, and win.

"Hate crime" is just politically correct mumbo-jumbo. The criminal act itself is the problem. When we start legislating what people are allowed to think, our Republic will have been lost.

It's all about the parents or guardians of the child and the environment he or she is raised in.
