Yes, but experience counts for much. The NCO serving as a platoon sergeant is responsible for teaching his/her platoon leader how to to their job as much as it is to make sure the troops in that platoon know theirs.

Yes. Even a low-ranking, young officer out ranks an older enlisted person that's been in for years. However, the younger officer could learn a lot by listening to some of the advice of the experienced enlisted person.

In accordance with the UCMJ (uniform code of military justice) and officer does outrank an enlisted. HOWEVER, it does not mean that the officer is any smarter!!!!
Many a 2nd Lt came home from Vietnam early due to friendly fire!!!!
I give all officers their respect and all staff NCO's (E-6 and above) my attention.
