Why should I worship ANY Diety who isn't far superior in
(1) Mercy than I am?

If I REALLY stretch myself spiritually, I can and have found it in my heart to actually forgive someone as HORRID as Hitler.

If I, a mere mortal, is capable of such a thing and other humans have forgiven their rapists, people who killed their children in drunk driving accidents etc.

How can I serve ANY God who allows human beings to experience meaningless torment FORVER with no hope of resolution, learning, growth, forgiveness etc?

Why should I worship ANY Diety who isn't far superior in
(2) Justice/Ethics than I am?

If my daughter disobeyed me. I would not punish HER children for it. Neither would any court of law that abided by the HIGHEST ethical standards send a person to jail because their father was a murderer.

How can I worship a God with less just principles than my basic human ones?

Shouldn't an almighty Diety surpass every human limit of excellence?

Seems I hit a nerve with Fireball LOL

You always know when the threats and assumptions on your motives come out! LOL
i.e. "You just want to be stubborn! Just repent or die!"

It only further alienates others from your God. Why not share with me HOW your God surpasses even the most wonderful human attributes?

People donot want to think for themselves. They want to hear what the local minister say, and will believe it no matter how for fetched it is. Example: The church i grew up in I had a minister explain why Jesus turn water into wine, so he could mix it with 6 parts water to make the water taste better. Yeah. Look at all these fundies trying to condemn the world but never look at themselves. How they are turning people off to God by trying to scare them into believing.

Thanks a lot for your excellent and great question. You must be a great person because only greats ask this kinda questions .No one should worship no one and God should not ask wohever to worship whoever , because this wouldn't be just at all .
Worship is nonsens .
God must deffend the dignity of everyone and it must respect everyone .
The portrait of God given by religions is of a very stupid , selfish and bad person and a person like that couldn't create the beauties we've seen in existence , so such a dingbatic God doesn't exist .
If God exists it is just and it's got nothing to do with the current religions .
Thanks ,I believe in you

Why should a "god" have to meet some human standard? A god is not human, not mortal, not living in a society. Human rules and ethics need not apply.

A god is worthy of worship because of it's position, not it's disposition.

A god holds all the cards, and doesn't have to meet our criteria or approval.

Gods attributes surpass yours by a longshot, as well as mine. I don't know who has mislead you, but God would forgive Hitler and welcome him into his kingdom. The only thing is, as far as we know, Hitler never asked to be forgiven or in anyway said he was sorry. If he had killed your own children, would you forgive hitler. I doubt it. God could and would in a second, but not if hitler gave god the finger and told him to hell with you. Don't look at it as God is holding a grudge against people for an eternity. God knows we are not perfect and holds no grudge, but he sees what is inside peoples heart. and if you reject god,and never ask forgiveness, i dont believe he trows you in a pit of fire. I believe he gives you what you want. When you reach the other side if you turned away from god, you get what you want, a world that you chose without him, and that is where you find what you brought on yourself by your by free will, and that will be hell. Don't let what you have read mislead you, don't let it take you astray. The forgiveness you speak of when you say woman forgiving rapist is God in those peoples heart. follow yours i feel he is in yours as well

I would agree, that a real god should be beyond human comprehension. Therefore, using yourself as a basis for what a god should be is flawed. You are suggesting that god should be a better form of human. As a god, it would have nothing to do with human characteristics. However, since humans invented god, it would be nice to find one example better than its creation.

Man created god in his own image.

"Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear." [Thomas Jefferson]

Fantastic question - absolutely wonderful.
I have asked my christian friends this sort of question many times, and the answer I get is "don't question god, his wisdom is above yours." Which basically means, "I don't know, but I will follow blindly anyway." That just defies logic.
Star for your excellent question.

You have no idea what mercy is pixie.

The fact that you can begin to think that you could be more merciful, more forgiving or more principled that the One who formed you is truly..unbelievable.

Whatever you think is the most abominable thing your finite mind can forgive, God can forgive infinitely beyond that. His mercy is infinite...as is His Justice....He is willing to give you everything you dont deserve because you ask, and everything you do deserve if you refuse to ask.

Your points are well taken. And I agree. Thats why I don't believe in the concept of Hell. There must be learning and growth. That is why I believe in reincarnation.
