Is this a frequent problem with this car. It appeared to come in through the floor heater. The previous owner kept it in the garage the majority of the time and it was seldom out in rain.

There are several possible causes. First of all, does this happen in the rain, or when the car is driven? If it is not raining when this happens, either the AC drain is clogged, or the heater core is leaking! Is the car losing coolant? If so, look at the heater core.!

If this only happens in the rain, most likely there is either a leak around the windshield, or if the car has a sunroof the drain in the sunroof is clogged with debris!

With a little more information, I could give a better answer!!

Fire4511 and 144289 have the combined answer.

If it's the heater core, you will be losing water in the radiator but by now you would probably know that because you would have an over-heating problem with that much water. You would also get a sweet smell.

If it's the AC you take a coat hanger and unclog it in most cases but this will require crawling under the car near the passenger side of the firewall. A lot of times the guys at the quick lube places can do that for you. We do it as a customer service at my shop all the time.

The service bulletin is out there. It leaks in through the cowl through the evaporator/heater core box. There are parts to buy to repair it and I don't think it's a recall..........that means you pay.

Those are the three likely problems.

There is a TSB from ford to install a "rain hat" which is a plastic sheild to prevent water from entering the right front dash and floor area of the car. The water gets in through the wiper cowl area. If this does not fix it check to make sure the last person that replaced your pollen filter did not leave any parts out or damage the pollen filter box or install it improperly or water may get in through there as well. Good luck.

Did it rain and was the window on that side down any, 1"?

Is the seal around the windshield Leaking?

What color is the Water, What do it Smell Like? (Heater Core?)

Years with that type of car, No Leak Problems.

Question for the previous owner Why was it Seldom Driven in the Rain?" (This may give you a clue!)

yeah go to your dealer and tell them the problem. There is a TSB (a Bulletin) to reseal where fresh air gets into the car, install shields to divert water away, and inspection for rusting and mold... Usually first complaint is A/C fan goes out actually.

One good rain shower (or a hi-pressured car wash) can cause that level of water in the car...

It's gonna cost you unless you have some sort of extended warranty that will cover it, Don't remember the TSB number off hand however, but Ford dealers should be aware of it (I know I got a cheat sheet at work of the part list because I do enough of them)

I had the same problem with one of my cars and come to find out the heater core went bad and instead of the coolant circulating through the engine and transmission it just leaked out onto the floor on the passenger side. They normally have to take the entire dashboard out to replace the part.

It looks like to me that rain is not the problem with your car .
The heater core on most cars is located under the dash on the passenger side . Unless the water appears when it rains only then I really wouldn't know . If the car is missing coolant or over heats then heater core

There's a service bullentin, rain comes in from the right side of the winshield fresh air duct. There are a few modifications to do to make the water drain where it is suppose to.

check the seal around the windows, esp. the windshelds. Also check around where the vents are on the outside below the front windsheld, if in the front floor board . hope this helps
