Well if you became a vegetarian by reason of what you gained in regards to knowledge/awareness, then I suppose. But I was sort of looking for something else or more.

Interesting answers thus far.

I did not write this to hear peoples beliefs on what the bible says or not. I could match those with things that were said which were actually historical about sects of Christianity, Ebionites, and Essene whom were vegetarian. So what some random individual says or what the bible says is not my question, I am asking the individual, not some book or popular person.

Bluto, a vegetarian diet can be completely healthly. By nature we are more herbivorous, considering our digestive system (and saliva) and how our body can break down foods. You can get protein from other sources, that is the biggest issue, which is easily dealt with. Go and do some research (if you are not bias), we are herbivorous. But that isn't what my question is about.

First off since I keep getting answers from Christians, the first followers of Yeshua were Vegetarians, the sect that Yeshua came from were Vegetarians (Essene). There is documentation that James the Just, Matthew, and etc by early church fathers were vegetarians, there are other gospels which say their disciples should be vegetarians. IN the bible in Genesis it says that man was to eat from the eat, that the green would be food for him/her. So please stop using the bible or theology in this, that is not my answer.

eat from the earth, I mean.

Just for the Christians. "Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food." (Gen 1:29)

What a lot of people don't really understand is the vibration of flesh, that we have an animal consciousness or a literal animal nature within us that perceives a spectrum of life we are completely unaware of, flesh/meat rots in the body, you are intaking the vibration of death in you - all of these do not help one to become consecrated it works against it. In the differing pagan stories like the Genesis man is supposed to have dominion over animals. It doesn't help to gain balance within that nature. The Lion within us must lay with the lamb within us. Also this vibration causes a dull effect over the mind, and it is associated with a lower vibration. We are to eat upon things which have vitalizing elements, because what you eat becomes apart you, since it will directly relate with the natures which it corresponds to within you. Those who advance to a certain point, will recognize this, I have when I write. I used to get stomach issues when I ate meat as well.

2007-11-01 03:59:02 · update #8

Asha, yes all things have consciousness, HOWEVER all things that you see in this world has an allusion within yourself. For example a turtle is turtle in form and characteristic because of what it represents in consciousness. It is a vibration of thought in its condition and has a reality within you, in vibration. It has a lot to do with what you consume and it is not lesser, it is very important, probably not as important of course is the fact that animals are your lesser brothers, given the fact that within you indwells an animal kingdom.

2007-11-02 14:11:14 · update #9

There is a difference between eating what is dead and eating what is living. A plant can't defile you, because it is alive and it becomes apart of you and it is vitalizing. Also the plant kingdom is a sort of balanced kingdom between the animal and mineral, it carries the life bearing essence, both in regards to what we eat and what we breath. In truth we are taking of the plant essence everytime we have breath cycles, because breath is FOOD is as well. So plants have a vitalizing essence which works towards the growth of consciousness in you. The animal kingdom is something that must be tamed, the lion must lay with the lamb. When you eat flesh it only strengthens this nature in you and you are ingesting death in your body, the consciousness/vibration of death. When you become sensitive to the vibration and what you feel, you will notice the dull that comes upon you, like a blockage. It brings you down to that vibration and can obstruct the flow of higher thought.

I had heard Aza's points before from a friend who is very much in touch with his spiritual side. Some of my friends who are very spiritul are either vegetarians or just taking fish and veggies.

I used to be a voracious meat eater too (when I was younger at least) but as I began to explore my own spirituality, I found out that when my mother wanted me to help her kill a chicken for dinner one day, I cringed!

As the body becomes "lighter" than one requires the food to be of lighter substance.
Fruit and vegetables, organic of course would be a good choice.
The body does have difficulty digesting meat, as it takes a longer time for this to occur. It actuality rots in the body before it is digested.
I do not eat meat at all, although once or twice over the last few years I have felt to include it for the protein and iron.
Listening to what the body requires in sustenance is definitely part of the movement towards living in the light.

Water is so important.
The divine enters the world through water.

I read once of a woman that lived on only the breath.
I know this is possible, if one dwells only in God, once you turn again to the mind, the body will require it sustenance and let you know.
People tested her, they lived with her to prove she was faking it, and of course, she could not sustain it, with the doubt coming from that crew, she could not maintain her connection to the divine.
(The observer will always change the experiment.)
They of course did not know that, and she was seen as a hoax. She was not, but I think it did her a great dis-service that exercise.
People fear what they don't understand.

I believe we can live on water and air if totally evolved and enlightened and dwell in this profundity moment to moment.

We are energy, and the energy of plant life is better for one, than the non-energy of dead flesh.

Vegetarian diet helps us to be less consumed by complex lower energies and as such can help in contact with higher energies since we have more of ourselves available.

As we become more aware and sensitive we realise that some of the brothers and sisters we are consuming might not be pleased by this or the way their lives were. Spiritual people can be evil just like everyone else so some may not care or even relish their power to inflict harm, but those who do not will find that this knowledge will weigh upon them and make them more selective when to inflict such harm.

In my experience most non-selfish non-evil spiritual people start eating less and less animals and moving towards simpler life forms or only chosing to be responsible for killing when their own bodies or spirits cannot do without the meat and only eating when the animal consents or is properly compensated.

yes, a natural progression...if you are sensitive enough to feel the energy..people can spend lifetimes unaware

i was pescatarian for over 3 years, and just recently started occasionally eating meat again...still i really prefer fish and veggies- always have

my lifestyle has changed and i have not been practicing meditation on a regular basis, so not as sensitive to the energies. i think being sensitive to the physical effects of what certain foods do to your body, as well as the ease or strength of the connection you are able to make to the Divine, combined with the conscious knowledge of how most animals are killed & treated, unneccessary suffering... it happens quite naturally...we don't need meat and our environment would improve if we all made the shift

i expect to become vegetarian again, and am letting it happen in it's own time. i don't think that it's 'wrong' not to be- but i do think that most people just aren't aware...people are wherever they are in that evolution

if i do eat meat, it is best to hold reverance for the animal, to be grateful and to clean the energies before consuming- sometimes i forget tho!

grace- prayer over any food...a gratitude and recognition for the cycles of life, this is a way to make eating a spiritual experience

That's great! I'm part way there but I still eat a little turkey and chicken. Ironically, I am b/c of cruelty to animals mostly but I recently found out that chickens and turkeys are treated even worse than mammals.
I think if someone is truly spiritual, regardless of religion, they wouldn't stand for anything to be treated as is 'the norm' for poultry and cattle. People say they're Xian but they have no clue as to the spirituality of it. I think the Nicene Creed deciding the Gnostic Gospels were unfit had to do with that. I don't know that vegetarinism is specified but my opinion is that a truly spiritual person would naturally be opposed to killing most things.
Oh. I heard once that some Xian tribes made clay-type representations of animals to sacrifice.

First, I believe that science will eventually come around to support what many vegetarians and vegans already believe. Plant foods do a better job of sustaining the body in all ways. There is significant evidence that humans are not natural carnivores, our teeth, the length of our intestines, etc. Now we are finding out that the major degenerative diseases are caused by the intake of meats, even lean meats, which are still pure cholesterol. According to The China Study conducted by T. Colin Campbell, even small amounts of meat and dairy can lead to the diseases mentioned above as well as cancer.
So, science is coming around.
Spiritually speaking, I think that if people had to kill their own food, many more people would be vegetarian. As is clear by the answers here, there are people who would gladly kill for their daily ration of meat.
I was taken aback by the emotions and forceful energy of the meat eaters who posted here. How vehemently they oppose a vegetarian way of life. I find that very interesting.
I grew up fishing, and now I have a large pond in my back yard. I cannot bear to see the fish out of water, much less put a knife to its gills and gut it as I used to. Even placing the worm on the hook, which I learned to get used to as a child, is impossible for me now. I just can't do it.
Something has changed within me, and it is a sensitivity to living creatures, and I think it is a good thing.

Based on Genesis, I would say that God made us to be vegetarians. Plants and fruits were supposed to be our food. Adam and Eve, the couple chosen to be the the pureness and innocence symbol to mankind, probably had such a high enlightenment that they didn't need anything else to feed them.

Different civilizations and cultures came on the picture and probably inserted meat to their menus over the centuries. However, I don't think it matters what we eat, as long as we grow into spirituallity through our learning, actions and thoughts. Remember what Jesus said "what goes into a man's mouth does not make him unclean, but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean" - matthew 15:11. I understand with that quote that what we speak is more harmful to ourselves than what we eat. (I am sorry to mention a Bible quote, but it is impossible for me to build up my argument without pointing out what I believe in).

In my religion, though, everytime we are about to have a session with spirits, our mentors tell us not to eat meat on that day. They say that when our body is cleaner is easier to make contacts with the other side, our senses get more sensitive per say.

Therefore, I would conclude that being a vegetarian is not crucial to achieve spiritual enlightenment, but once a person gets enlightenment he/she will naturally choose to be vegetarian. I hope you understand what I mean by that. You have enlightenment!!

I still eat meat, although I tried before to quit it, but I just can't, I love it beyound any reason. I allow myself to be on that road and I am convinced that this is not an issue that would delay my spiritual progress. I will expect my craving for meat to change naturally, maybe in a next life, who knows?

Peace!

When you consume dead flesh, you become dead as well. In order to get a grasp of what Passerby is saying, you will need to understand how man is comprised of seven kingdoms. Three lower ones: Mineral, Plant and Animal. The 4th kingdom which is the kingdom of man(The balance of the three lower and three upper kingdoms) and three heavenly kingdoms.

When you eat dead flesh you feed the animal nature within you, thus preventing your mind from accessing higher realities. There is a reason why its commanded that man should eat from the fruit and herbs of the earth. The planet kingdom is the balance between the mineral and animal kingdom. So when you consume food from the planet kingdom you are bringing your three lower kingdoms into harmony with each other. Just as the 4th is the balance between the three lower and three upper kingdoms. As the 6th is the balance between the three upper kingdoms.

There are many here that are so ruled by their lower nature that they can't help but to consume flesh and blood, they crave it. Just as animals. If one becomes more cognizant of Passers question you would see it amounts to as you seek to know thyself and make the journey within, does Vegetarianism become a natural process? As I wrote, its impossible to access the higher spheres of mind if you are constantly consuming the animal kingdom within you. Thus you will continue to remain organic since you continue to feed that untamed animal within you.

Peace

Yes I do but then again I too am a vegetarian But other people may not think so. We will not eat flesh food in heaven as there will be no death so might as well get used to that now while we are on the earth

I think that it's a good sign that you care about creatures, and have broken out of the human focus, which I look at a lot like the early days of Christianity, where you could get killed for saying that the universe does not revolve around the earth. I don't eat meat very often, but sadly, there are times when the carnivore in me needs to be satiated.

Aza makes several excellent points to which I fully agree. As one progresses there comes the time when meat no longer holds any appeal. The physical body becomes aligned with higher energies and leaves behind the weight of emotional energy contained within meat. Plant substances are living. Taking them into the physical body brings a sense of sunshine into the body and leaves it feeling lighter and more alive. It's a purifying process.

Meat eaters, in general, are more emotional beings as the fuel for their bodies comes from emotional sources. Vegatarians, as a rule, have a certain clarity in their thought and feeling processes. (This is, of course, just my perspective)

Switching to a meat-free diet isn't always a conscious choice. For many the desire for meat simply fades away.

Some writers, such as HPB and others, claim that it isn't until one has no meat intake for 7+ years that one begins to 'see' what exists and truly begin to vision reality.

A note to Sirius:
I doubt any of us would have qualms about being invited into a higher, more evolved entity to partake of the experiences of that realm. No matter what I take into my body, I invite it and love it for the sustenence it shares with me. I OM over it and share an energy field with it before we commune and share the same body. I indeed believe the plant kingdom is conscious and won't impinge on its rights.

My body doesn't function optimally with meat in its diet. Meat leaves it feeling sluggish and lacking luster. It was not a conscious choice on my part to become vegetarian. Over time I felt more in tune with plants and haven't eaten meat for 20+ years now.
