ok. theres a good background i like. so...how do i get rid of the pic thats in the background, but keep the background? best answer gets 5 stars

If I'm understanding what you're asking, the answer is probably in the layers.
If the image has already been flattened, then you'll have to use the magic wand tool and cut out the unwanted part, then use the rubber stamp tool and copy the background and paste it over the unwanted part.

Unless you have the PSD file of that image, it will take a bit of hard work. With the PSD, each part is in a different layer, and you can just delete the upper layers (or make them invisible) and keep the background. If it is a single layer file, you will need to capture the 'picture' part using several tools, delete it, then reconstruct the missing part of the background by copying and pasting or cloning from other parts of the background. With a detailed background, this can be very difficult and the end product may not be very good.

If you do a search on Photoshop Elements tutorials, you will find several very good sites on the internet with tricks, tips, and explanations of how to do really cool things with this program.
