I'm not talking about jobs that are great in pay and you have to be skilled at something to do it. I'm talking about small minumum wage or maybe a little above, no expierence required, anybody should be able to get jobs. I know too many people that have trouble even getting jobs at fast food resturants let alone any other parttime or fulltime customer service job. It's not that their under or over qualified. Or have bad criminal backgrounds. Or have mental or physical disabilties that hold them back. They keep searching for just a job that can put money in the pocket, they appliy at every place that's hiring and nobody hires them. These shouldn't be places that have high standard or qualifications. So what is it that people do wrong that ruins there chances for a job? I just don't understand it sometimes. Is it the way they look or act? Is it something they do on the interview? What could it be?

It is most likely that either the companies they applied to didn't have immediate openings, or someone else more qualified beat them to it. Or maybe they aren't trying as hard as you think they are.
I would encourage them to see if there is a program in their state or city that teaches resume and interviewing skills.

A lot of times, it has to do with things like dependency. Can I, as an employer, depend on this person, as an employee, to show up on time for his/her shift? Is he/she going to work out O.K. for a while, then all of a sudden start flaking? Looking at employment history, length of employment at other jobs, etc. I know, now, that a lot of places will not make comments on past employees if a new potential employer call for a comment. I tried doing that, and the manager told me that he cannot comment on anything like that, just how long he worked there and what he got paid. That's it.
Sometimes, flaking on an interview can mess up your chances tremendously. I dont think it should be a deal-breaker though, but it does weigh a lot in a person's decision.
I suppose "Dont stress. Just be yourself" isn't enough advice? But that's just it. A lot of people get over-stressed, over-think their answers, and say something weird or ramble or clam up and dont say much at all.
Just show your willingness to learn, your ability to finish a job completely & more than adequately, and that you're reliable.

It could be any number of things. Sometimes people are discriminated against on the basis of appearance or race. In fact, many years ago I worked very briefly at a Burger King. Almost everyone there was black and another woman and I were the only white people there. Sure, we were hired for our positions, but there was a definite (though unspoken) message there that we were the wrong color.

I think it depends... sometimes you have such a very good CV and everything but when it comes to interview, everything is ruined because, like me, I have communication problem because I get nervous easily. The apperances can be also the reason. But it's all depends. We should learn from our mistakes and try to be better each time.

aside from being under qualified, some people just don't know how to simply present themselves...i interview people all the time for jobs and sometimes its just their unkempt appearance or body odor or just plain stupidity that turns me off...sorry but its true..
