To you who are quick to remind us that "we are all immigrants", stop clouding the issue. When the American Indians, and later the English, came here, THERE WERE NO LAWS against it. There was no system of government, and there was no United States.
That has nothing to do with the situation today. The United States is an established nation, with borders and laws. As members of the world community, immigrants have to respect those laws, and that means they have to stop the border jumping. The truth is, they have no interest in existing as law-abiding members of the world community. Illegal aliens only think about grabbing what they want from a nation that has it.
No matter how difficult you think it is to legally come here, the fact that the United States is a wealthy nation with great opportunity does not automatically entitle you to sneak in here and skirt our laws just because "it is too difficult" or because the English originally came here with no immigration laws over 400 years ago.
The fact that something good exists over your border doesn't entitle you to just walk in and steal it.

Actually, Native Americans came here much later than the Asians, which were here 20,000 years ago. Some research based on Luzia has led some scientists to speculate that earlier migrants from Australia came here. Sorry, even you are an immigrant. So, if you want to use that argument, well you would be wrong.
There are laws regulating immigration, just like there are laws in other countries dealing with immigration.
Regarding jobs nobody wants; sorry, I was a maid during high school, I washed cars in college; and I currently DONATE my time to clean up the mess left by immigrants illegally crossing the border of my state. Below is a link for snopes showing photos of a trashed trail. So please, don't tell me what jobs I am willing to accept. Would I do it now? Probably not, but I am not ashamed of the fact that those jobs got me an education.

Yep, we need laws regulating immigration.

I am pro-immigration. I am anti-illegal immigration. I think most Americans feel similarly. I think its a very small minority of extreme liberals that want to let everyone in. But that small minority is out protesting so their voices seem louder. Most normal people have jobs or go to school so they don't have time to stand on a street corner holding signs espousing their views. There is absolutely nothing wrong with immigration as long as it is done legally through the proper channels.

I think that no one is totally informed about what people really want.
I live in a predominant hispanic community and let me tell you, most of the residents of the city are descendents of illegal immigrants and they are demanding tougher and harder laws against illegal immigrants.
The only ones who don't want any laws are the illegals. Everyone else is demanding laws

They aren't really "pro-immigrant" they are "pro-illegal immigrants". Those who truly speak for our legal immigrants don't condone illegal immigration at all. Illegal immigration hurts those who are attempting to immigrate legally.

there should be laws. I have nothing against people immigrating here but I do believe they should have to do it legally just as we should have to do it legally if we wanted to immigrate to another country.

America is NOTHING but Immigrants....UNLESS you are an AMERICAN INDIAN like me, pick up a history book, everyone came here from another country originally....Germans, Italians, French, Brittish, Mexicans, Africans, the list is endless.....
WHY close the gates now? WHOSE jobs are these IMMIGRANTS taking? Cleaning toliets? Working as maids in hotels, washing cars, picking up trash, picking cotton, spraying crops, working in slaughter houses....have I named a job yet that YOU wanted.....I doubt it.....
immigrants do the work that no one else will do and for less pay....
people get your facts straight.....
