for business' to get more shoppers.

Seriously that;s why it started.
and for all the brainwashed claiming it's for farmers here's a quick quiz.

of all the professions you can think of, which are most beholden to the sun as opposed to a clock?

Yes, THE FARMER!!! You think the cows appreciate suddenly being milked an hour later? Seriously think about it.

"The bill was drafted in 1909 and introduced in Parliament several times, but it met with ridicule and opposition, especially from farming interests. Generally lampooned at the time, Willett died on March 4, 1915"
"In 1916.... There was a fair bit of opposition from the general public and from agricultural interests who wanted daylight in the morning, "

OMG people, a farmer DOESN'T EVEN NEED A CLOCK!!! DST doesn't give you extra daylight, it gets people up or keeps them up in daylight hours. The amount of daylight doesn't change b/c we change the clock. This is so scary.

Ostensibly, to save energy.

According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Daylight Savings Time will end on November 4, 2007 at 2:00 AM local time for most of the United States and Canada. During the shorter days of winter, the sun rises relatively late in the morning; governments have determined that is undesirable.

Benjamin Franklin first proposed it while an American delegate in Paris in a letter to the Journal de Paris as a way to save lamp oil.

Daylights saving time was first implemented in WWI as a way of conserving energy. The current dates were modified by the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Prior to 2007 daylight time began on the first Sunday in April and ended on the last Sunday in October

The railroads are responsible for the clock or time as we know it, and Benjamin Franklin was the first one to suggest shifting the time so the evening hours would have sunlight as opposed to the morning hours of the clock.

That is why the farmers in Indiana revolted, and they keep the same time year round, because they want the sunlight at 5 a.m., so they can work in their fields. I doubt religion played a role at all in DST.

It is to move the time people work back an hour so there is more evening daylight time.

Basically people dont want to get up early to enjoy the morning .

OH and its not because of farmers their hours don't change they don't have a clock on& clock off time

Lucid came close. Chuck made it so there would be more time in the evening to fight evil farmers.

i think its to do with farmers, the sun starts to rise later in the morning come winter so they move the clocks back an hour so the sun rises at an earlier hour (so if the sun rises at 7am in Oct we move the clocks back an hour its now 6am when the sun rises) and we move it forward an hour in march (or whenever i can never remember) because the sun rises earlier in the summer. its so farmers get work in/done i don't know, i just know its to do with them and that's why the clock gets changed. hope this made sense :)

Chuck Norris wanted more daylight hours so that he could kill more efficiently.

I've always heard it had something to do with the farmers needing more light to harvest their crops. Considering the small number of farms nowadays, I have to wonder why it still happens. This is one of those THEY things and we never know who THEY are-do we?

I think it was during WWII they did it in order to make the daylight work easier. Some thing like that.
