my ex hit me and did alot of stuff to me the other day, well the cops came and all this crap, hes scared to get in trouble and every since then hes been making up tons of lies about me and going to the cops for everything. Well the cops just got on my myspace and printed everything out and all of my messages, is that illegal for them to do that? Because my ex told them my friends keep harassing him because he hit me, which they havent, but can they do that?

So you post stuff on the Internet and expect privacy?
Got news for you....if you walk down the street naked people are going to look at you. If you put it on the Internet, people are going to read it.
Don't want people reading your Myspace page - get rid of the myspace page.

You have made it public by posting on MySpace. Now anyone can view what you post. Including the Police, the FBI, Homeland Security, etc. You have no expectation of privacy on a public venue....

Anyone can get into your myspace page, even if it is on private. Lots of hackers out there. Nothing you can do about it. But, yes, it is legal for the police to do that.

Of course, think twice before putting information on a sharing site such as that. After all who's to say the cops don't have their own my space accounts? They are probably just know better then to put personal information on a site that millions of people can access.

I have no idea about internet privacy laws... but I would imagine that law enforcement would need a damn good reason (probable cause) and/or a search warrant in order to invade your privacy. Then again, it's the internet and any tech-savvy fellow can hack in...

What I am thinking is that since your ex gave them access to his site and the messages sent between you two then they looked at that and based on the info from there they were able to proceed with what they did.
There is a possibilty he new your password and gave it to them.....does changing your password help?

My Space is a public site.
ANYONE can view and print what you put there.
I suggest you read the fine print about the terms of service.
